Porygon was never showed in the anime in America because an Episode called Electric Soldier Porygon was banned from the first series because very bright blinking lights caused Japanese children to get seizures.( It is the same with it's evolutions.) Even though it was Pikachu's thunderbolt that was the problem, when it  electricuted the Team Rocket missiles. But alot of people love Pikachu, while some wished it was banned instead. They would rather point a gun at it and say "Good bye Pika-pew!" Pull the trigger and kill it. But the anime just wouldn't last.
