CHAPTER SEVEN

--ASHTONS POV--

I don't remember you.

Those words echoed in my head and I tried unsuccessfully to get rid of them. Lou Smith, the girl who was on my mind 24/7. The girl I had had a crush on since I had first . The only girl I had ever loved, didn't remember me. The only thing that hurt more than that, was knowing that I had caused this to happen.

"Ashton." A soft voice interrupted me from my thoughts.

I looked up to see my mum watching me from across the table. "Yeah?"

"You zoned out again." She said worriedly, her brows furrowed. "You haven't touched your plate."

I looked down at the now cold spaghetti on my plate. I swallowed the lump in my throat, knowing that she had made my favourite food to try and cheer me up. But it hasn't worked, nothing would work. Except for Lou getting better and magically remembering me. But I had to accept that that wasn't going to happen.

"Sorry." I sighed. "I was just thinking..."

She reached across the table for my hand and said comfortingly, "It will get better. Soon you'll move on and forget about all this pain."

I wrenched my hand away from hers. Why didn't anyone understand? I didn't want to move on, all I wanted was her. All I wanted was my girlfriend to remember me, that we were dating, that she loved me. I got up from my chair angrily, wanting to be anywhere else but here.

My mother stood up too, opening her mouth to say something. But before she had a chance, I was out of the room. I grabbed my backpack and a hoodie, before racing out of the door, where I climbed off my bike.

"Ashton!" A voice shouted, coming from behind me. But I ignored it and started pedalling.

Not before long I had reached the hospital.

I walked through the large doors and past the reception desk, as I already knew where she was staying.

"Excuse me sir, but where are you going?" A voice from behind the desk called out.

"I'm going to see Lou, Lou Smith."

"Who are you? The brother? A relative? A friend?"

"Her boyfriend." I said rather sharply. "I'm Ashton Irwin."

Looking down a sheet of paper, she shook her head and look at me apologetically.

"Sorry, you aren't on the list. I'm afraid I can't let you see her."

Speechless I looked at the receptionist. They weren't going to let me see her? Did Lou hate me that much?

"Who wrote the list?" I said finally, trying to get rid of the sinking feeling in my stomach.

"Her mother, Mrs Smith." She replied.

That explained it, I thought to myself bitterly. She had never approved of me and thought her daughter could have done so much better. Now was the perfect opportunity to make sure that we never got back together.

"Are Vanessa and Rebecca here? I asked curiously, knowing Mrs Smith didn't particularly like Bex either.

She nodded, "Yes. Mrs smith new how important they were to Louise."

I looked down, trying to hide the pain her words had caused  me. "Is there a bathroom here?" I said, my voice cracking slightly.

"Straight down the hallway to the left."
I nodded gratefully and headed in the direction of the bathroom. But instead of turning left, I turned right to the staircase. I walked quickly up the stairs, knowing Lou would be at the top of them.

Once I had reached the second floor, I cautiously opened the door to the hallway and after making sure that no one was around, I crept to Lou's door, which was slightly ajar. Peaking my head around the door, I saw Lou sitting upright in bed, eating some kind of hospital food. Since she was alone, I knocked softly on the door. Jumping slightly, she said quietly.

"Come in."

As I walked in, her face fell slightly as she saw who I was.

"Expecting someone?" I asked, while pulling a chair next to her bed and sat down.

She nodded, but then shook her head. "No, not really."

"Oh."

Was all I could say and I started fiddling with my sleeve. I had had so much to tell her, but now I was here, I just didn't know what to say.

I opened my mouth to say something, but closed it again when realising that she had done the exact same thing.

"You first." I said awkwardly.

We sat in silence for a while and I began to wonder if she was actually going to say something. But just as I opened my mouth once more, she finally spoke.

"Look I don't really think you should be here right now."

"Lou.... But, I..... Please?" I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Ashton. I don't remember you. I have no idea who you even are."

"Can't you just try?" I managed to get out, my throat closing up.

"No." She said. "I don't think.."

But before she could continue, she was interrupted by a cold voice. One that had always given me shivers.

"Ashton what are you doing here?"
I spun around, only to find myself face to face with the only person I had been truly afraid of.

"Mrs Smith." I said, my voice shaking slightly.

"I said, what are you doing here?" She said dangerously.

I gulped. "I came to see Lou."

"I can see that. But what I really mean is how did you get in here? I told the receptionist not to let you in." She narrowed her eyes.

I shrugged and looked at her innocently.

"What can I say? It must have been my dashing looks."

A snort of laughter came from Lou's direction and I couldn't help but grin slightly.

"I would wipe that smile off your pathetic face if I were you Irwin."

I frowned slightly, knowing that any chance of me spending time with Lou depended on me getting on her mothers good side for once.

"There we go." She smiled nastily.

"Now, if you set a foot in this room once more, I promise you I will get a restraining order. So if you want to see my precious daughter again, I would stay away." She smiled icily.

So now she was using her powerful lawyer threats on me. Mrs smith had never lost a case, at least in my knowledge, so I didn't have very high hopes at wining against her in a court case. She hated me and the feeling was definitely mutual. The only reason I had ever been civil to her, was for Lou's sake, but I couldn't take it anymore. I glanced at Lou, who was looking slightly uncomfortable.

Sighing, I looked at her mother. "Okay I'll go and won't come back."

"Good choice Irwin."

Pulling a scrunched up note out of my pocket, I walked over to Lou and and pressed it to her hand.

"Please just do this one thing for me, please read it."

Then I turned away and ran out of the door, before I either punched something or bawled like a baby. Either choice didn't sound very appealing.
