When My Eyes Were Closed

"The world seemed a whole lot brighter
when my eyes were closed
and my heart was locked away."

It's best to cover your face in scarred hands
before your sins force open your eyes
to see the raw dirt of earth unholy by your feet.

Your face goes as whte as a sheet,
Your eyes become as wide as sausers.

Then you try to cleanse them of truth.
These plates are broken you realize...
when you cut yourself on lost hope...
and bitter verisimilitude,
and glass that spoils your parchment thin skin.

Why are you conflicted with this infection?
Do you really think covering what is Real
will make a difference?

You are sufficating the accuracy
of life.
Under white cotton that sticks to your skin.

You are pretending it is possible
to do the impossible.
To extract the idea from the object
And crush that theory untill
you can't see Real no longer.

Do you actually suppose the scarlet
in that unlocked heart of yours
will bleed out?

Nothing will fade away.

You should have listened.
But when do you ever listen to me?
You think I am not as truthful am I seem.

I prey your clenched hands away from your sides
to cover your innocence once longer
though I realize too late,
all that's left of
Your shield,
Your saving grace,
Are bloody stumps
That remain.
