Suddenly, his arms were around me and his lips crushed against mine. Butterflies fluttered erratically around in my stomach and my head started spinning. Somehow, I managed to grab his blond hair and pull him even tighter against me than he already was. I’d kissed before – but never like this. One moment, his lips were soft and tender, the next moment, he was rough but passionate.
When we finally broke apart, we both had to gasp for breath. A bit shy, I looked past him, instead of straightly at him. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Sky and Suse watching me with their mouths wide open. Somewhere behind Owen, Dave have me the thumbs up with a huge smile on his face. Most students, however, kept on dancing, eating or talking without even noticing. Only a few fifth year girls, including Victoria and Daisy, were watching me with smiles on their faces.
‘Marie, you’re all wet!’ Owen suddenly said.
Confused, I looked down at my dress to find out he was right. He’d spilled the two bottles of butter beer and Sky’s soda all over me. I hadn’t even noticed him holding those, but the bottles and glass were now on the floor, chattered, so he must have dropped them in his haste to kiss me.
‘Reparo.’ I muttered, and the pieces of broken glass mended together. I looked down at my wet dress again. ‘I’ll just change into something clean and dry.’ I told him. ‘I’ll be right back.’
I turned and started to make my way through the dancing crowd. But, when I’d almost reached the stairs leading to the girls’ dormitories, he called me back.
‘Marie!’
I turned at an instant and found myself embraced by him once more. He kissed me gently now, but passionate all the same.
‘I like you too.’ he whispered in my ear. ‘An awful lot.’
I blushed when he released me and smiled sweetly at him. ‘I’ll be right back.’ As fast as I could, I raced up the stairs, burst into my dorm and started digging in my trunk to find something decent to wear. But before I’d been able to find anything, Suse and Sky entered the room.
‘Oh – my – goodness.’ Sky said shocked. ‘Did I just see what I thought I saw or am I hallucinating?’
I laughed and turned around to see her surprised but happy expression.
‘You can thank me now, or safe it for later.’ Suse said smugly.
‘Wait a second...’ I said, suddenly suspicious. ‘You didn’t do this on purpose, did you?’
‘Of course she did.’ Sky said lightly. ‘What did you expect?’
I sunk down on my bed and shook my head in disbelieve. ‘What if he hadn’t liked me? What I’d just been turned down and now sat here crying, instead of changing because he spilled our drinks over me? Did you even realize I could have been turned down on my eighteenth birthday?’
Suse sat down next to me and put an arm around me. ‘I’m sorry, Marie, I truly am. But you see – we kind of... knew he liked you.’
‘How?’ I asked her. ‘How could you possibly know that? I can’t even believe it and I just kissed him – twice – and he told me he liked me.’
‘He did?’ Sky said excited. ‘You lucky bastard.’
‘How?’ I asked Suse again. ‘Tell me, how did you know it?’
‘He told Dave.’ she said. ‘But you can’t tell Owen that – Dave wasn’t supposed to tell me.’
‘Well... in that case...’ I suddenly jumped up and hugged both of them tightly. ‘Thank you so much!’
‘You’re welcome.’ Sky grinned. ‘Now, let’s get you something decent to wear.’
Five minutes later, I entered the common room again, feeling even less comfortable than before. Leave it to Sky to find me the barest, most colorful dress in my whole wardrobe.
At the bottom of the stairs, Owen was waiting for me. When he spotted me, his jaw dropped. His eyes took my appearance in and he shook his head slowly. What was wrong – was I looking that bad?
‘Hi.’ I said shyly, not knowing what else to say.
‘You look...’ He struggled for words.
‘Amazing? Breath-taking? Incredibly beautiful maybe?’ Sky suggested dryly.
‘Yeah, something like that.’ he grinned.
I blushed deeply and passed him to get back to the dance floor. I had a lot of energy right now that was itching to get out, and if I didn’t get rid of it know, I might explode. But I didn’t get very far, as Owen grabbed my wrist.
‘Where do you think you’re going?’
‘Uhmm... dancing?’ I frowned. Where else would I be going?
‘Without giving me a kiss?’
He looked so sweet and sad I couldn’t resist it. I threw my arms around his neck and stood on tiptoe to kiss him. Before I realized what was going on, he’d lifted me from the ground and swirled me around. When he put me down again, not even once breaking our kiss, I was standing with my back against the wall. I pulled him as closely to me as I could possibly manage and grasped his hair with my trembling hands. His tongue forced my lips apart and I opened my mouth willingly. His tongue entered my mouth and I pulled him even closer toward me. Fireworks exploded in my head and my legs felt like they were made of bubblegum. I didn’t even consider pulling away, not even when he pressed me against the wall with such force it actually hurt.
After what could have been minutes as well as centuries, he pulled away and took a step back. My legs weren’t prepared for that and they gave up. I literally fell straight into him – again.
‘Careful now.’ he said breathless when he straightened me.
I smiled swiftly and regained my balance. Falling into him twice at one night was enough, so I decided I wouldn’t try for a third time.
‘So...’ he said with a wicked grin. ‘Now we can dance.’
