FALLING SLOWLY
A few hours later, the noise of Van banging on my bedroom door flooded my eardrums with insignificant pain.
The news of Jackson was a lot, leaving my brain in a cluster of chaos.
"BEKAH! GET YOUR BUTT IN GEAR!" She shouted loudly. "I have news that you will not believe."
Having heard her footsteps near my door, I had already gotten up to meet her.
"What is it?" I said loudly from the other side, without opening it.
"I'll bust the door down in a few seconds."
Huffing in annoyance, Van responded to my silence by counting down from three getting ready to actually do it.
"Hang on! We won't be able to return the deposit if you start breaking the apartment now."
The door opened with a twist of my hand, revealing an ecstatic Van in the doorway.
"GUESS WHO GOT INVITED TO THE BRANCH HOUSE FOR THE SENOIR PARTY!" Van yells jumping up and down.
"Isn't it a public party?" I remind her pointedly, still upset with the past being brought to the present.
"Uh, please. She handed me these herself!" She tells me pulling out two fancy pieces of paper from her high waist, pocketed skirt.
My eyes widened at the sight of those monstrous things they had the will to call invitations. More like a death note.
"Why would she do that?"
Van shrugs, obviously not caring. "I don't know! But don't question it!"
Oh I'm definitely questioning it.
"Not happening. That would be social suicide attending her party."
She shakes her head. "No it's not! This may be the last time we ever see her! Meaning, it would be like embarrassing yourself in a grocery store! You'll never see these people again!"
That's true...NO!
"I already know you're thinking about it." Van smirks. "You have your thinking face on!"
Dang it!
"Well, she's most likely planning something there, so why even go?"
"Because! It will be fun and we can just ignore her! Or get Jackson as a body guard!"
My entire being stiffened at the mention of 'Mr. Perfect's' name. I can't let anyone find out what he is. I feel like that would be a pink slip for angels.
"Not him." I reply nervously.
Her face twisted into confusion. "Why not? I thought you guys were friends now? He did take you home from school."
"Yeah!" My tongue forms the word hastily. "I just don't want to bother him."
She looks at me suspiciously, though doesn't question anything. "Whatever Wolfy! Stay in your cave!"
My eyes squint annoyingly at her. "I will thank you very much!"
"Honey, I was joking. You don't have a choice."
She grabs my wrist with her gorilla strength, yanking me over to her side. "OMG! MAKEOVER TIME FOR THE PUPPY!"
Oh. Dear. God.
