"are you sure you want to go with me? the training might be too hard on you...."

"Chen, how many times do I have to say this? don't be sexist"

I finally made my best friend since childhood, Chenle to keep his mouth shut. He's been going at my neck since the moment both of us started our journey to the airport and let me tell you, the drive to the airport isn't just a quick walk to your favourite coffee shop. My poor eyedrums have had enough with his lecture that will only end up falling on deaf ears.

"I wouldnt be having a problem if you decided to be like any other normal person and try to debut in a girl group but noooooo you just had to be quirky" he said clearly stressed out.

"Chen, don't worry too much, you're only stressing yourself out... you can't be getting any wrinkles on that pretty face or any white hair on that head of yours"

"there really is no use trying to get into your head" he sighed as he slid from his seat and had his hands slide down from his eyes like a child throwing a tantrum

"my point exactly, so why not enjoy the ride lele" I let out a small laugh at the end before turning my back from him to get into a more comfy napping position, hearing an overdramatic groan coming from my left in the process.

"thank you, uncle. please let my mom and aunty know that we made it safely to the airport"
I thanked our family driver, well technically Chenle's family driver but who needs to know, you know? he gave a quick bow to me and was back off to the neighbourhood to fetch chenle's mother to one of her many gatherings with her lady friends.

it's tough work I thought to myself as I watched the car slowly disappearing

"oh? uncle left already? well, I got us a trolley though"
great, he had to ruin the moment. I rolled my eyes and turned to the sound of the voice, not without having my arms crossed and my right eyebrow raised as i locked eyes with him.

"well...the bags aren't going to lift by their own" I gave him a cheeky grin and gestured to our bags that uncle was kind enough to pile for us. Chenle looked at me reluctantly before walking slowly towards our bags because he realised the bags were not going anywhere if he hadn't - smart boy

without waiting for him, I entered the airport first. the familiar yet foreign smell of an airport always feels comforting, well not really right now because we're flying to a completely different country at 13...... a little crazy don't you think? but I refuse to let Chenle go alone, how can he have the time of his life without me? and that folks, is how I got myself into this mess. what is the mess exactly? well.... you see, Chenle and I are different in many ways... one major difference is that my 'balls' are on my chest, I do need to point out that mine aren't very large but I'm content and his is well.... you get what I mean... and maybe, just maybe... "accidentally" filled in the 'male' option as my gender during the auditions...... only Chenle knows that though......my mom still thinks I'm going to train in South Korea as a girl..... however it's the complete opposite..... no big deal right? pftt

"wen, do you have everything? passport? boarding pass? declaration form?" Chenle asked as he listed each one out with his fingers, rubbing his left temple with his other hand to think if he missed out anything.

"yes chen, i have everything- also! i should be the one taking care of you! not the other way around", "what would aunty mei say if she found out her precious baby has to take care of caretaker when she tasked the caretaker to take care of her precious baby?" i continued.

he opened his mouth then shut it again, clearly annoyed. i really have been driving him up the wall these few hours..... "look chen, i know you're just looking out for me", "but you don't have to worry that much, I cut my hair and we now look like we're cousins" i assured him. Chenle had an unreadable expression on his face as he inched closer to me until our faces were just a centimetre apart. just as i wanted to open my mouth to tell him to get out of my face, "not cousins, just close, really close buddies" he corrected then slowly pulled away. "right, really close buddies" i repeated, confused with the correction.

after that conversation we didn't really speak much. the flight duration wasn't that long anyway so there really wasn't any reason to have a conversation or another argument. we hailed a taxi and told the driver where we wanted to go after we had our bags collected and immigration stuff done with.

One step closer to Chenle's dream
