JENNA: Can I have another chip?
ELAINA: Sure.
JENNA: Thanks.
ELAINA: It is really boring here. Is this all we're going to do for a whole week? Sitting in a tent eating chips?
JENNA: I think we might run out of chips.
NAOMI: Oh my gosh. I almost forgot. At the tent distribution, Mrs. Harris gave me an envelope. She said it had information about today's activity.
JENNA: Where is it?
NAOMI: In my bag. Oh good. It's here.
ELAINA: Open it.
JENNA: What does it say?
NAOMI: Dear Survival Week Participants, after you get your campsite set up, please report to Trinity Field for today's activity. We will be starting at ten o'clock. Quick, what time is it?
JENNA: It's 9:54.
ELAINA: (standing up) We'd better get going! Does it say anything else?
NAOMI: No, not really. Trinity Field is right on the edge of the forest. We can make it on time if we run.
JENNA: Run? I don't think so. Not in these heels.
NAOMI: Jenna, change into tennis shoes and let's go! There's no time for fashion!
ELAINA: Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!
JENNA: Hang on. (tying shoes borrowed from Naomi) Alright. I'm ready.
NAOMI: Let's run!
ELAINA: How far away is Trinity Field?
NAOMI: Maybe five minutes running time.
JENNA: Ugh, I thought we could get out of gym class by coming on this trip!
Five minutes later
ELAINA: (panting) We made it!
JENNA: Just on time.
NAOMI: I think we're supposed to sit down in the grass like everybody else.
JENNA: Kay kay.
PRINCIPAL HARRIS: Hello students, and welcome to Day One of Survival Week. I think everybody is finally here, so we will begin. Each of the five days will include different activities and competitions and chores. Yes, chores. There will be a laundry day Wednesday and a pavilion cleanup Friday, among many other things. But we don't have to worry about that right now.
JENNA: Thank goodness.
PRINCIPAL HARRIS: Now. Onto today's schedule. It is now ten o'clock and time for morning activity. After we are done, you will go back to your tents and gather your mess kits for lunch. There is a pavilion near the campsites where we will meet for lunch at 12:00. Since it is the first meal here, you will not have to prepare it yourself. But don't get too excited. After you eat, we will all go fishing in the lake to catch dinner.
ELAINA: Ugh, not fish.
PRINCIPAL HARRIS: Well, without further ado, we will start morning activity. Today we will be playing... (pause for effect) Capture the Flag!
Half of the students cheer, the other half boo
JENNA: (joining in) BOO! BOOOOO!
NAOMI: Jenna? Why are you booing?
JENNA: I don't know. It's fun. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
PRINCIPAL HARRIS: Quiet down everybody. We're going to divide into teams. Everybody's name is written down on a slip of paper in this bag. I will pick two names and they will be the captains of the two Capture the Flag teams. (picks out two pieces of paper from bag) Okay. Captain number one is Lindsay Valentine.

HumorIt all started with a school assignment. One week in the woods. Survive. Pass. It's as simple as that. But anything with friends Naomi, Jenna, and Elaina is not going to be that simple.
