Chapter 2 - LILY POV
James Potter walked into The Three Broomsticks. I groaned. Alice winked at me.
"You do know that he would do anything to go out with you, right?" She whispers.
I nod. "He's nothing but a heartless git. I wouldn't go out with him if my life was on the line."
Alice laughs. "He's alone. And he looks calm enough. Go say hi." She says jokingly.
"No!" I shudder. "Who would ever go out with him?"
Alice shrugs. "Him."
I laugh. "He probably would go out with himself if he could."
James' eyes scanned the crowd. When he finally saw me, he motioned for me to come to him. I look at Alice. She shrugs. I get up from my seat carefully and make my way over to James with caution.
"What do you want?" I ask, annoyed.
"Why do you always avoid me? Sure, I do terrorise your best friend for fun, and I do annoy you a lot, and most people don't like me," James counted the reasons on his fingers. "But I do like you. A bunch. You have no idea." He pauses to look me in the eye. "I only do those things because of my friends. If you want me to stop, I will stop." He smiles at me, and I think it is genuine. Then he says, "As for Severus, I won't stop hurting him. Why do you even hang out with him, anyway? He's a Slytherin. One with greasy hair." And I figure it was another part of his trickery.
I glare at him. "Sev is my friend, okay? If you hurt him one more time, I will make you regret it." I try to sound as threatening as possible, but those warm brown eyes took all of the anger out of me. Focus, Lily. I told myself firmly. Don't let him hypontise you.
"Yeah. Nice friendship you got going there." James says, pointing to Sev. He was sitting in the far corner from the door, and at first I didn't see him because lots of people were crowded around him. The people that were dark and mysterious. And intimidating. Very intimidating.
"Maybe they're just... studying." I say feebly. There's no way they could be studying. No way.
James laughs. "Yep. They're totally studying, not plotting to hurt you at all."
I glare at him again. "Sev wouldn't do that."
"Okay. Tell me that when you finally understand that he's scum and I'm the one that you like."
Taking that as a dismissal, I walk back to Alice.
"I swear, that boy will be the death of me." I say through clenched teeth. "That arrogant, selfish, little-"
"Lily! You're back! I saw you run off, but then someone talked to me and I didn't see where you went." Tonks says.
"Oh. James Potter wanted to talk to me, nothing big." I reply.
"James Potter?!" She exclaims.
I nod. "He had some interesting things to say, too."
Tonks seems interested. I reiterate the conversation to her, as well as any others that were listening. Alice leaned in, determined not to miss anything.
"Wow." Tonks says. "Do you really think Severus will hurt you?"
I think for a moment. I didn't think that Sev, my friend for 7 years, would really harm me. But I guess I was about to find out.

As we walked from The Three Broomsticks, I heard a twig snap in the forest next to us. I seemed to be the only one that heard it, though. The others just kept walking. Curious...
