Amber looked at Torin as he stood across from her in an open field by the house.
“Ok Amber, you are going to learn how to shift today. We usually stick to animals that are native to the area. It would cause quite a stir if a human happened to see a tiger or lion walking around. So I want you to stick to wolves, coyotes, cougars, bears that kind of thing. Now shifting is actually easier then you might think as your body’s DNA already knows what to do we just have to train your mind. Now I want you to close your eyes and relax. Imagine what it would be like to be a wolf. Imagine your body shifting so instead of walking on two legs you are on four. Your hands and feet have become paws with claws. Your nose has become elongated and your teeth are now sharp and able to tear through flesh and bone. Your ears are pointy and are even more sensitive. Your body is covered with a course fur. Now open your eyes”
Amber opened her eyes not expecting to see much but she was surprised to find that she was much closer to the ground then she had been before. She turned and saw her snow white fur. She couldn’t see but her eyes were still a deep blue. Amber looked at Torin her surprise evident even in her wolfy face.
Torin grinned. “Congratulations Amber you have learned your first form. You are an arctic wolf a fairly large one at that. Every time you turn into a wolf this is what you will become it is unique to you. Now I want you to experience this form for a little while before I teach you another.” Torin shifted into his wolf form. Torin was a large black wolf with deep blue eyes.
Amber watched this and he walked closer to her to allow her to sniff him. He smelled the same as he always did only now he had a wildness to his scent. It was almost as if his scent told her that he was shifted. Amber tried to take a step forward and stumbled forward.
Torin’s eyes glittered with repressed laughter. He padded over to her and nudged her up. Amber got up and looked at him pleadingly. She didn’t know how to walk or do anything. He nudged her forward gently. Amber tried to take another slow step when she had she jumped up and down. She couldn’t believe she had done it. Torin nudged her again and got her slowly walking around the yard. She found it was easier to walk when she didn’t think about it. When she let her body do what it already knew how to do. Torin picked up the pace a little and made her work to keep up.
They spent a few hours like that, letting her get used to walking and running. It was weird for Amber to see the world so close to the ground. She slowly began to pick up the scents of the other members of the pack. Their scents laid out on the ground in front of her almost like a bunch of little pathways, with some weaker than the others. Amber’s ears twitched a moment before she was rolled over as a light gray wolf pounced on her. She rolled over and looked around to find a gray wolf looking at her. Amber smelled her and recognized her as Emma. Emma barked at her an crouched down wagging her tail inviting her to play. Amber followed her lead and pounced on Emma.
The two wolves played and roughhoused for a while before Torin whistled at them. They both turned and looked at him with Amber panting heavily.
“Alright girls, I think that is enough for the day. We need to take this slowly” Emma nodded and shifted back. Her wolf and her were very similar, her eyes were a green and her hair was a sunbleached blonde. Her wolf was lean and muscular and that carried over to her human frame as well.
“Ok Amber your turn, think about your human form your blue human eyes and your long curly black hair. Think about the things that make you human, legs and arms that kind of thing”
