Life Forever Changed - Chapter 8

Amber sat in her room watching tv. There was a Buffy the Vampire marathon on and it was one of her favourite shows. As she watched the episode where Angel turns dark she recalled the conversation she had with Kiara and her mentioning that vampires and werewolves existed. She wondered if other demons existed and if so they would ever try to war with humans again? Amber got up and went hunting for Kiara or Torin. She went up to Torin's study and knocked on the door.

"Come in" Amber walked in to see Torin at his desk working on his laptop. He glanced up,

"Amber, how may I help you?" Amber stepped into his office and closed the door. She sat down in a chair in front of his desk.

"I was wondering if you could tell me about vampires and weres and demons. Do they still exist? Are they still a threat?"

Torin sat back and steepled his fingers in front of him. He studied her intently for a few seconds. She had grown a lot in the past few weeks. She was comfortable in her own skin now and he knew that she would start to get curious about the other 'beings' in the world.

"Well what do you want to know about first?"

"Are Werewolves still around?"

"Yes, and their numbers are still growing. They have more than 1 way to reproduce so to speak. They can change someone on the full moon by attacking and not killing them and their offspring are always weres. Even if one person is human, the child will still carry the were gene. The child will change sometime around their 25th birthday for the first time and then every full moon for the rest of their lives. Weres do tend to live a long time as well"

"So kind of like shifters then?" Amber said. Torin saw the tiniest flash of anger in her eyes.

"Kind of except shifter children can change from the time they are born."

"What about Vampires?" Amber asked.

"They are still around as they are immortal, but their numbers are stable, They love being rich and influential and dont tend to make new vamps unless they are lonley or want a servant. They cant go out in the sun, peice of wood through the heart will kill them, they stay away from crosses, holy water. The usual stuff"

"What other kinds of magical beings are there?"

"all kinds, witches, wizards, demons, angels, and there are rare cases of cross breeds."

"So if there are so many mythical beings out there why aren't we all in the open?"

"Well a couple reasons, 1 being that the humans would not accept us and we are not all banded together. If we were to come out it would start a war. 2 as it is our silence keeps the demons, weres, and vamps from attacking the humans openly or in mass. Also there are evil witches and wizards and shifters that don’t want the humans in power. Our silence keeps the humans safe for now and it keeps a regular human out of our world."

"Are we at war?"

"Not yet, but we are protectors. We were created to protect humans and wait and watch for signs of trouble."

"I see" Amber thought for a few moments about the world she had found herself in. At first she thought it was cool but now she was starting to realized that maybe there was more too it. " Well I think I'm going to go to bed now, good night Torin"

"Good Night Amber"

Amber left Torin's office and went to her room. Amber sat on her bed and looked out the window at the cloudy sky. Every now and again a break in the clouds would reveal some stars. What had she gotten dragged into? She was living her life simply. She had a few friends and knew nothing of this world. Now she was in the middle of a world she didn't understand. Everything she had been taught about what was real and what was fantasy was wrong.
