Narrator POV

Once upon a time, there was a girl who dared to be brave against the highest of rulers with the greatest of powers. This is where our story begins...

Her whole family were classified as Greens, except her.

When you gave you name, it was your first name, last name, then color. Like Delilah's close, and quite possibly her only friend, Sarah Jordan, would be Sarah Jordan Yellow.

Yellows were rare people. They were almost all killed off after an ethnic cleansing many years before. They had killed off all blues, all pinks, and almost all yellows. Being the sunshine color was good thing, and a bad thing.

They were always a friendly, non-aggressive kind- ttreating everyone equally, which is mainly why they were looked down upon. They were thought to not be tough enough for true survival.

The color caste in the society was something unheard of in other socities around them, though only 5 societies existed. Starting with brown and red at the bottom, yellow and orange in the lower middle, green in the middle, lavender in the higher middle, and purple at the top.

Browns and Reds were hunters, fishers, and butchers. They were the least respected of all.

Oranges and Yellows were housing repairers, cooks, and waitresses/ waitors. They were some what respected, but still treated as second class citizens.

Greens were warriors and engineers. Respected by all, but still not given the pay they truthfully deserved.

Lavenders(a lighter shade of purple) were school teachers, bankers, and officers. Given every ounce of respect on earth, but didn't work as hard as the lower classes.

Purples were royalty. They were judges, kings, queens, princes, and princesses. They were officials and made the laws in the society of Amable.

Delilah was born in Amable in the winter month of December. Given it was 3020, Delilah would be 20 in 3 days, on December 1st. Delilah wouldn't celebrate her 20th birthday like very other person in the society because she was different- too different. She was a blue, and blues were suppose to have been killed off many years before.

Because she didn't have a home, she was always in the library. The library wasn't like any normal library, though. There was one main section of it missing, poetry.

In Amable, music and poetry made people want to rise up against the Royals, like when the Blues tried to overcome the Royals. The Royals were afraid so they killed everyone in the community that the blues were living in.

'Then why am I still alive?' Delilah thought to herself.

There were many things in Amable that you couldn't do. One of the dumbest rules, according to Delilah, was that you couldn't marry outside you class, in order to prevent color mixes.

'Thats how I must've been born, A mixture.' She thought to herself, but then realized blue is a primary color and a mixture would be almost impossible.

In Amable, you couldn't even use public bathrooms if the doorframe was painted anything above the Greens.'It was ridiculous that they would do such a thing.' She thought. Everyone was treated poorly if the were below a Green.

There were two other groups that were so low that they werent even classified as true classes. The Grey class was for slaves, though Delilah never saw them around a lot. They worked the hot farms, sewers, and had other jobs no one wanted. The Blacks were prisoners that sat in jail waiting for their sentences.

"Delilah!" She heard her name

She turned to see no one, but then spotted a yellow coat running toward her-Sarah. Delilah's face lit up at the sight of her close friend. "How are you, Sarah?"

Sarah smiled and said," I'm good, but I come bearing news!" Delilah rose a brow to show her curiosity.

"There's a new person, from outside of Amable. He is a Royal from the Texan Society! Arnt you excited?" Delilah nodded, unable to speak.

"He's looking for a wife! He is in search for any you lady from ages 17-22! That means you're eligible!" Delilah stopped smiling and immediately she frowned. 'Why would he want me?!' She thought to herself.

"Are you aware of his name?" Delilah asked Sarah.

"I believe they said his name was Cedric Jay. You must see him!"

"But when will I possibly be able to see him?" Delilah asked out of pure curiosity.

"He is suppose to be walking through town square to see if there is a young lady he would like." Delilah scoffed and started to feel anger boil up in her, and Sarah knew that she was mad just by the way that Delilah would furrow her eyebrows down and how Delilah's ears would turn pink.

"You're mad, why?" Sarah asked, waiting for an answer from Delilah. "He thinks he can walk around and pick out any girl he wants and expect them to fall at his feet because he's handsome, rich, and popular?!" She snorted at the idea of it. "Who does he think he is- almighty God?!"

"Sh sh sh! You don't want any Lennons hearing you say that. You know the law, no religion!"

Lennons were basically the officers, except mean and tougher.

"Fuck Them! They can take me away for all I care! I hate this place! I just want out of here!" Sarah sighed and was about to respond when she heard the Royal Bell.

"Great, 10 o'clock already? You'd better get going, Sarah, before anyone sees you out here." Sarah gave Delilah a quick hug before she ran off onto Lemon Street to her small sized home.

"Now what to do?" She thought out loud.

"I guess I could wander the streets for a while before the patrol arrives." She answered herself

The patrol always came by at 11:00pm to see if anyone was out, and then they wouldn't be back out until 3:30am to check and see if anymore trouble was being caused.

Delilah knew it was illegal, but she would always sing to herself songs she didn't even know she knew until she accidentally let them slip past her lips.

"Dancing bears, painted wings

Things I almost remember

And a song someone sings

Once upon a December

Someone holds me safe and warm

Hoses prance through a silver storm

Figures dancing gracefully

Across my memory,"

She looked around to see if anyone was watching, then took a deep breath and continued to sing again,

"Far away, long ago

Glowing dim as an ember

And a song someone sings

Once upon a December"

She quietly whistled to herself the rest of the walk down the streets until she reached a familiar alley that was thought to be abandoned. She called this alley her home, the rats her family, and the cardboard boxes her bed.

An abandoned ally with paintings on the walls, on boxes, wooden boards, heck- even on the glass from windows. Everything was color, but she only painted the beauty from what she saw in the world.

After taking a few seconds to look around for high class people, she settled into her home.

She layed down on some boxes and fell into a deep, dreamful sleep.
