"Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game"- Babe Ruth
Tanya POV
One sheep, two sheep, three sheep, four sheep This isn't working... I was exhausted from all of the visitors and medicine to supposively make the pain fade away. Yet, it wasn't working at all. I was still hurting and my mind wandered off to options it shouldn't have, like putting a bullet through my head or jumping out the side window.
Everyone in the state new I had lost my tongue because one of our cooks blabbed and that person blabbed, you get the idea. So all 2 million citizens knew about it. I had been receiving letters- and gifts- from about everyone in the kingdom.
Dear Madam Tanya,
I hope you're feeling a little better by now. I am a lot like you. I am mute, not by choice. When I was seven, my dad beat me pretty bad and I lost the ability to speak(ask the doc the details). I am 10 now and I use sign language and writing to help. I heard you're stubborn, so was I about getting help, but you should really try it. Maybe I could teach you? Anywho, ill let you sleep because I know what its like to be so tired after so much medicine. See ya soon.

Maybe, Dana, just maybe.
Delilah POV
"Hey, lovely." I heard Zayn say while entering the room. I smiled, happy he was reffering to me and not snob head Becca. I looked up at him and saw he was holding a tray with chocolate chip pancakes and orange juice. I smiled brightly, mainly because I didn't have to get up to get food. He sat down on the other end of the bed and read a piece of paper. "What ya got there?" I asked with my mouth full. "The paper." He stated. I rolled my eyes, of course it was paper. I knew that! "I know its paper, Zayn. I meant 'What does it say?'" He got up and sat next to me.
"When I say 'The paper' I mean its the news paper. The state has one and so do all of the cities and villages in it." I nodded, "We never had those. Everything we knew was learned in school, at the library, or through the loud speaker." He scoffed, "I know. You guys had no freedom of speech, press, or religion."
"Yeah. It sucks because I so badly wanted to be a true Catholic, but I've never actually read a bible." He nodded and said, "I have a copy if you want it. And you can be any religion you want here. I'm Catholic(A/N I know he is really Muslim but I know nothing about the religion so please go with it)."
I said, "So you're allowed to say what you want to, be who you want to, live, eat, believe, wear, write what you want to?' He nodded. "Great, because I sure as hell hated not being allowed to express myself." He smiled and took my finished pancakes to the kitchen. I said id be back before running to my room to throw on black pants, a dark green long sleeve, and a black dress jacket.
I headed down the stairs and yelled, "Zayn, I'm going out!" he came around the corner while putting up a jacket and said, "So am I." I smiled and locked arms with his. We both ran out and I saw on the sign it said 5 Days 'Til Christmas.
"Zayn, where do you have the gift giving for Christmas?" He replied, "Usually after supper. In the morning we visit the orphanage and watch the little kids open up presents and bring the more to open as well."
"So you do have a heart?" I asked jokingly. He responded, "I can't help caring about everything when I'm around you.
You give off this beam of energy that makes me want to be happy about everything." I laughed and asked, "Is that really true?" He didn't even skip a heart beat to say back, "I would think so since every time you're smiling, I'm smiling."
I smiled, and as he had said before, he smiled too. I followed him into an unfamiliar street, which was weird because the street looked so public and crowded. The bell in the distance gonged a dozen times, telling me that it was noon by now. I had continued to walk with my arm linked to Zayn's, but I didn't think of removing it because it had felt right to be there, like his lips had felt right on mine.
I was curious as to what was going on in the city because a crowd started to gather in the middle of the street. I felt Zayn push me into a fancy restaurant and bar and heard him tell someone he knew- or didn't know- to watch me and keep me safe. He ran out after that and I was only a little bit worried, until I heard three shots fired.
After that, it was a panic zone. People ran out of buildings and into the streets to see what was going on but when they got out, they were only shot. I tried to stop people from leaving the restaurant, but everyone must've wanted to get home or to see if their families were safe.
I wanted to see Zayn badly, but I knew he would only get hurt more by trying to save me if I had put myself into danger.
I hid under a table in the corner of the restaurant and watched as the owner and his family ran into the stairwell and locked the door. I was one of ten people in the restaurant left. There were two families of four and the bartender hiding behind the bar, and I lied still so no one would notice me and shoot.
I heard the door open, and to my horror, more shots were fired. There were no screams, as if the people had already accepted that they were going to die. But that was something I would not do. I had always had a philosophy of the saying "Do not go gentle into that good night", and I was going to live up to it.
"It's empty. Pity. I was hoping she'd be here." One man said, then the other responded,"We'll find the Blue. She's as dumb as a rock and as innocent as a child-" he was cut off by a hand to his throat. "Do not think that all children are innocent, some have pasts to haunt them the rest of their lives. Not all of us were spoiled in Amable." Another man spat out, and I held in a laugh.
The three men left, except for the one who I would call 'choker'. He stayed after they had all left and said," I know you're there, blue. Come on out." I remained still and he slowly came over to the table I hid under. He ducked down so that we were eye level and he came under with me. "Blue, you're stirring up some trouble all over the damn continent." I widened my eyes involuntarily. "You didn't know? Well, honey, the whole Texan Society, Amable, and lots of others are after ya. And do you know why?"
"No. And I really don't want to know." I said stubbornly, not wanting to give his man the pleasure of surprising or taking me off guard. "You started a riot when you escaped. The lower classes are fighting back, even the Greens. Then we have other states joining in like Toronto and Alaska. We still need the Westerns to join in, but they are afraid of getting the civilians hurt. Anyway, you've sparked something and it's changing people."
"And who were those people you came in with and why are they killing the innocent?!" I whisper yelled. "I'm from the Texan Society, but I'm a double agent. Texas thinks I'm working for them as an agent when in reality, I'm working for Westerns. They found out you escaped here, so they followed. I'm afraid that this isn't going to he,o win your trust, is it?
I shook my head 'no' and he sighed. "Zayn will be wanting you back. He's in the infirmary, but he'll be fine. Just a shot to the shoulder and a bit of shock. He jumped in front if a kid, but the kid died of a wound a couple of minutes ago." I nodded and followed him out the back door and into a cellar.
"Just follow the orange vent line, but whatever you do- don't follow purple. It leads to the kitchen and I don't think the cooks want a dead girl in the oven when they come down tomorrow. It's about 2:15 so you have time. Make sure your inside the castle by 5, or you're most definitely dead.
I was a bit startled by him, but I figured he forgot his pills. "Oh and tell Tanya I say hi." I swiftly turned and asked,"Why do you care about her?" I failed to not give him the pleasure of catching me off guard because the next thing he said was,"Shes my sister."
