Clary looked around the library, standing on her tippy toes trying to find a familiar face. She wasn't sure who it was she was looking for; She was already standing beside Simon and Isabelle, but other than that, there was no one who seemed even somewhat familiar to her.
The shadowhunters that milled around in the library spoke in hushed voices and Clary caught pieces of conversations, "demons must've done this, there's no other explanation..." "I wouldn't trust the Seelie Queen, she's probably done this to herself."
It seemed to Clary that no one had even the slightest idea what had happened. She was about to ask Isabelle and Simon if they'd heard anything back in Idris, when the library doors opened. The large oak doors flew open quickly, shutting just as fast with a bang just as loud. In walked a woman that looked similar to Isabelle, though she walked as if each step were a heavier than just her body weight. Mayrse Trueblood (formerly Mayrse Lightwood until the divorce). Clary had mixed feelings about the woman. She was Jace's adoptive mother, but she'd never shown much emotion or affection towards clary. Following Mayrse was her now ex husband and inquisitor, Robert Lightwood. He had greyed over the last five years, and the once burly man was now a much thinner and smaller version of himself. Jia Penhallow, the Consul, followed Robert. She was a small woman but she held herself confidently. All three of the Shadowhunters were dressed in black gear, not their usual meeting clothes. Mayrse climbed the stairs that led to a balcony that was above the first floor of the library. The three shadowhunters together were a very commanding presence. The hall fell silent. Clary heard her own breath loudly in her ears, worried that the others would be able to hear it too.
Mayrse had a regal look to her. Much like Izzy, she had long dark hair and high cheek bones. But where Izzy's face was a glamour, Clary suspected that no matter how hard you worked, what you saw was what you got with Mayrse. Jia looked small, standing between the two others. But when she cleared her throat and began to speak, there was nothing small about her.

"Nephilim," she called, and all heads whipped in her direction. "As you already know, the Seelie Queen has gone missing. And though we owe the Fey nothing, this is a problem. One that may be intertwined with our own problems. Fey and Nephilim a like have been going missing and then turning up mutilated and drained of blood. We don't know if this is related to the Queens disappearance or not, but we cannot take the chance that it is." Jia looked a different shadowhunter in the eye as she spoke. Jia, clary found, had a way of making you feel like she was speaking to you directly.
"We will not take this--"
As Jia spoke, the library doors flew open again and a distinctly familiar girl ran into the room after an older woman.
Oh, Emma. Clary thought. Emma was running after an older woman who had light green skin and pointed ears. A faerie.

"Consul!" Emma cried, her blonde hair whipping in her face as she dashed through the room. Several other shadowhunters noticed that she was in pursuit of someone and all proceeded to help apprehend her. The woman gave a cry and a large male shadowhunter put a pair of handcuffs on her wrists. Clary looked at the woman carefully. She wasn't as old as clary had initially thought, but her face was scarred and disfigured, masking her true age. The dress she wore was stained with blood.
Jia looked startled, looking from the woman to Emma.

"Emma Carstairs, what is the meaning of this?" She asked, sternly, quickly schooling her startled expression. As if at once, all the heads in the room turned to Emma.
Clary hadn't seen the girl in a while but she looked more or less the same. Her blonde hair was a mess and she had blood on her face. Her sword cortana was in her hand. Though Emma wasn't out of breath, she was breathing hard.

"I was on my way to the meeting, and I saw her!" Emma cried, pointing at the woman. "I saw her walk through the front door and kill Ferris!" Clary tried to remember the shadowhunter named Ferris but all she could remember was ginger hair and a moustache. She wasn't sure she'd ever had a conversation with him before and now, it seemed, she never would. Jia looked horrified.
Before anyone could say anything, the Faerie woman spoke.
