I sometimes hate my name. It's the way they scream it, with such hatred and bitterness, even though they gave it to me. Each time my name passes through her lips, I can feel her blame in it. Each time my name passes through his lips, I can feel his regret.
Nothing good ever comes out of my name.
But the way you said it ... Nadia. So gentle, so breathless. There was no contempt in my name when you said it. There was only need, and warmth, and kindness.
I wish I could hear you say my name — one last time.
