"I'm not pretty. I'm not beautiful. I'm as radiant as the sun"

An Open letter to The Girl on Fire.

Dear Katniss,

You obviously don't know me very well but three years ago, a part of my life revolved around yours. I watched you transform from the shivering, skinny and starving girl to a determined, resourceful and kickass young lady willing to endure all hardships if it meant her family's safety. Despite the risks, despite the predators, despite the death sentence, you were brave enough to enter the woods each day to protect your family from starvation. I watched you in awe as you ran forward with desperation and volunteered as tribute for your sister. I watched you as you befriended little Rue and sang to her as the mockingjay in her flew away. I swooned as you kissed Peeta Mellark for the cameras, not realizing yourself that you were falling for him. I watched you risk your life for the boy with the bread and willing to end your life if it meant him not surviving. I watched in admiration as you beat all odds, survived the games despite the painful hunger and the dizzying thirst, the traumatic deaths and all the ugliness you witnessed.

And so, you became my favourite heroine right after Hermione Granger.

Love,
Ayesha.
