Hopeful Pills

After their short encounter with Petra and Mikasa, Eren and his new roommate sat huddled tightly together on the small bed, drawing comfort from each other. Eren was flopped casually across the raven's lap, playing absently with his sleek black tail that twitched gently at his touch, and Levi was watching him with tired, bored eyes.

It had been hours since their last conversation.

Disliking the timeless silence, Eren cleared his throat and whispered to Levi quietly.

"I'm scared, Levi."

The smaller man blinked, startled out of his empty trance. Eren's voice was hoarse and cracked from being out of use for so long, and Levi could feel him trembling through his thighs. Biting his lip, Levi looked at the brunette's face.

Eren's eyebrows were furrowed together with worry, and his lips pressed together tightly. What caused the small gasp to escape Levi was the boy's eyes. They were filled with dull fear and the usually clear ocean blue was now stormy and glazed. Levi looked away and placed a hand on the boy's shoulder, gripping it firmly.

"I know Eren, I know. But you have to pull through with this. Everyone's worried about you. Even me. Four-Eyes is doing her best, working hard. Your girlfriend is supporting you and so is that blond boy. It's going to take forever and a half, but everything will work out in the end. Even these damn cat ears."

Eren looked at Levi's eyes, at the masked determination hidden beneath the raging waves. They were unwavering and strong, but they hid a secret unknown to himself. One that he was afraid to uncover. "She.. Mikasa isn't my girlfriend." Eren managed.

There was another thought filling his mind, though.

'Everyone's worried about you. Even me.'

He cares..?

Smiling through watery eyes, Eren leaned up and wrapped an arm tightly around Levi's shoulders. Despite the awkward positioning, it was still something special to the pair. It was still a hug. And it still struck an unfamiliar chord deep within both men.

~Back in Hanji's lab...~

Hanji sighed heavily and began shuffling through the many cupboard and shelves in her lab. Everything was a mess and the one thing she desperately needed was nowhere to be found.

Damn it. If Eren falls asleep, it'll be over for me. She thought nervously. I'm counting on you, Levi. Keep him awake. Please.

Praying that Levi had heard her pleads, she kept on searching frantically. Then, with a yelp of success, she found them.

Energy pills.

These weren't just any energy pills, oh no. Hanji had used these herself when she been researching a delicate Titan sample. It had required her to stay awake during the whole procedure, which had lasted for at least a week, if not more. They'd keep Eren awake for about 7 days, hopefully longer. If not, they may have to use more drastic measures to keep him awake.

Hanji shook her head to herself. No. That wasn't going to happen. They wouldn't need to do that. Not unless the pills failed. Which they wouldn't. Of course.
