True Love?

Chapter 4

Drew POV
           Every second I spent with him I took a step closer to a cliff. Soon I was going to start falling, actually I think I already was.
           "So, biology next?" Riley asked, disrupting me from my haze.
            "Yeah, right down there." I answered.
             "So, are you into science?" He asked.
             My inner geek started to come out, "is mitochondria the powerhouse of a cell?"
              He smiled a real smile. People compliment me on my smile all the time, but I thought his was 10 times nicer. It made the whole hallway seem to shine a little brighter.
             I smiled too, and his eyes wandered to my parted lips.
           My cheeks flushed. His smile widened. He chuckled a bit.
            Uh oh, I thought, I'm definitely falling.
Riley POV
            Every time she smiles my head spins, I honestly lose track of anything going on around me. I just stare. At her glowing face, her wide eyes, her white teeth, her red lips, smoothed over with some light gloss, everything.
         I would give almost anything to be hers. I don't fall hard. I've never been a serious long commitment kind of guy, but I've already started falling, and realizing how into this girl I was.
       "Calculus was hard," I said.
        "Yeah," she answered.
         "I can't believe he already gave us homework. I'm definitely going to need a study partner for this." I said.
          "Oh really?" She asked, sporting a flirty grin.
          "Help me with calculus homework after school?"  I asked.
         "Sure," she said, smiling again, "got a phone?"
         "Sure," I answered, grinning," got a number?"
         "As a matter of fact, I do," she told me, smiling happily. " I'll give it to you in biology."
          "Cool," I said. I'm sure I looked like a total idiot walking down that hall, grinning and humming a little, but I didn't care, because I got her number, and right then that was all that mattered.
*skip to lunch*
        I walked into the lunch room, not totally sure what I was doing. At every school I've gone to I've been popular. The tall, handsome, smart, athletic one.  But right now I wasn't so sure of myself. Usually I had ten friends by lunchtime. If been so focused on Drew that I didn't know anyone except her.
         I looked around, people just ate and talked, lots of different groups of friends spread around the room. But directly in the middle of the lunchroom was the popular group. Cheerleaders sat on their football boyfriends laps. Girls sat on tables. Boys punched each other on the arm. But the only person I saw was Drew. Right in the middle of the popular group, sitting on Gwens lap, laughing and smiling. She looked my direction and her face lit up. She motioned me over.
      Well, I thought, here I go.
      When I got there I just stood awkwardly and waited, Drew stood up, "come on," she said," don't be shy." She grabbed my hand and pulled me to the table.
      "Guys," she yelled at them, getting everyone's attention, "this is Riley, he's with me."
        A chorus of oooohs rose from the girls, and drews cheeks flushed for the tenth time that day.
       "Stop it guys," she said, "just be nice, ok?"
       They all nodded and went back to talking and laughing. Drew motioned to her seat, "you can sit there," she said, "I'll sit on the table."
       Slightly confused from all the new stuff I just nodded.
       She sat down on the table, and let her legs fall in front of me, so close that if I moved forward an inch I would have my chest in them.  "So how was PE?" She asked.
      "Fine," I answered honestly. PE was easy for me, I was naturally athletic.
       Some boys came over and whacked me on the back. "Sup, I'm Noah, this is James, and that's Sean. If you need to know anything, well, I would say ask me, but I think you already have Drew all over you." He raised an eyebrow at her.
       She laughed, "we're not dating."
       "For now," Noah whispered.
       "Come sit with us," James said, "don't stay over here with the girls. Even if some of them are smoking." He winked at Sophie.
        Drew and Gwen turned to her, surprised, and she blushed. They started giggling and talking.
        "Come on," Noah said, "let's go."
        "Cool." Looks like you'll be popular after all, I thought.
