Sophie POV
"Ok so tell us all about your date!" Gwen yelled when we finally got to my house.
"Yes, I totally want to hear, but maybe, fooooood?" Drew asked. "Pleaseeeee."
"Ok," I laughed.
******after food ****
"Ok go," drew said, smiling happily.*flashback to her date*
There was a knock on my front door. "I got it," I yelled, rushing quickly down the stairs so my family didn't have the chance to embarrass me in front of James. I composed myself after almost running face first into the wall and pulled open the door.
"Hey," I said, smiling at James' goofy grin.
"Whoa, you look ho-" I slapped a hand over his mouth.
"SHHHHHH. My family can hear you!" He pulled my hand off his lips and laughed, grinning at me. He didn't drop my hand, he just held it, intertwining his fingers with mine and pulling me out the door.
"Bye," I yelled to my family, smiling as James tugged me out the door.
"So," James asked when we got to the car, " can I tell you how hot you look now?"
"I suppose..." I said, giggling lightly.
He looked over at me again, "well then, you look very, very hot."
"Well that was unexpected," I joked.
He laughed, "so, where do you want to go?"
"Do you like Nicks?" I asked, hoping he loved it Italian food as much as I did.
"Sounds perfect," he smiled, turning around to get to the center of our tiny town.
*****at dinner***
"What are you getting?" I asked, unsure of what to get.
"Maybe, chicken Caesar salad? I'm not sure."
I laughed when he said chicken, wondering if I would have to make the face if we kissed. Then I made a disgusted face and gave myself a small internal lecture for thinking about kissing him. Although he did he have nice lips.... No! Sophie! I couldn't think that way. This was a first date. But....
"Sophie?" He asked, pulling me out of my daze, "you there?"
"Yes," I laughed, "just, thinkin..."
"Ok," he laughed too.*****out of flashback****
"So yup, that's all that happened," I said quickly, knowing I wouldn't be able to get out of telling the rest, but trying anyway.
"No no no," Gwen said, "you got kissed, we all know it, so finish the story." Drew laughed while nodding.
"Worth a shot," I mumbled.******back to flashback after dinner****
"So.... I don't want to take you home." James said after we finished dinner.
"Well I don't want to go home, and since my curfew is 11 on school nights, we have a few hours, what do you wanna do?" I said.
He smiled, "well, you can say no if you don't want to, but do you want to go swimming?"
"That sounds amazing," I said, "plus we should do that before it gets too cold."
"Perfect. I'll drive you home to get your swimsuit, and we can meet at the river at 9:15. Sound good?" He asked.
"Perfect," I answered, smiling.
*****9:15****
James POV
I sat waiting , it was only 9:13 but I couldn't wait for Sophie to get there. I loved that she had wanted to go swimming, it was a different side of her, a part of her that liked night swimming and going to the river and I loved it.
She walked around from behind the bridge and I grinned widely, she was hot. Everything about her, not only was she sexy, but she had a smile that lit up the night, and a huge heart that showed above everything else.
She laughed at my grin, probably thinking I looked ridiculous, and I did too, feeling so lucky to have her.
"Are we going to swim?"she called.
"Oh yeah!" I yelled back, standing up. I looked at the river, making sure swimming hole was below me, and jumped into the water, shivering as I hit it.
"Wow," she laughed, "9 out of 10!"
"What, that was like, 11 out of 10!"
"Nope, I see that I'm going to have to show you how it's done," she laughed.
"Be my guest, but I don't know if anyone can beat my perfect jump," I said back, smiling at her.
"Just watch me," she grinned. Then she ran and jumped off the rocks, landing right next to me then popping up, laughing and smiling.
"Ok I guess that was a little better," I said, laughing at her approval over the fact that she had won.
"See," she said, "I'm just the coolest, ya know? You just gotta except it."
"Sure," I laughed, "but I bet I can tread water longer than you."
"Nope," she said, shaking her head jokingly.
"Fine," I laughed, looking at her triumphant smile, "we can just hang out."
"Cool," she tugged her wet hair out of its ponytail and ducked underwater, coming back up and pulling it to one side, making me want to run my fingers through the dark curls even more.
"Ok," she said suddenly, "I have a plan. We're going to race to the other side and back, because I want to race. You up for it?" She put on a sly smile.
"Oh yeah, I'm going to show you just who's the best at swimming," I answered.
"Ok," she turned, looking across, "ready, set, go!" She rushed underwater and swam steadily across, beating me even though I was trying my hardest to keep up. When she reached the other side she turned, winked at me, and dove back under, I knew I was going to lose, but I swam as hard as I could anyway.
I finally reached her again, panting.
"Valiant effort," she giggled, watching me catch my breath.
"You're a good swimmer," I said in mock annoyance.
"Well it probably would have been more fair if I told you I was a competitive swimmer before you agreed," she laughed.
I gave her a fake glare, "I call an unfair advantage," I yelled, "ref!"
"Hey," she laughed. I threw my arm in the air, pointing at her, "ref! This girl needs a penalty!"
Sophie laughed, jumping out of the water trying to grab my arm.
"Nuh uh!" She yelled, catching my arm in her hands and tugging it down, accidentally crashing herself into my side, our only swim suited bodies suddenly much closer than they had been before.
She looked up, her brown eyes wide and we just watched each other, my deep stare matching hers.
We just stared for a long time, and when I couldn't stand waiting another second, I brought my lips down to hers. Just as we were about to kiss, I pulled back, suddenly hit with a wave of worry.
She pulled back too. Looking hurt and pushing her eyes down to the water. I hated how upset she looked.
"I'm sorry," I whispered. "I just, I don't know, have you have had your first kiss?"
"No," she answered, looking even more embarrassed than before.
"Well, I don't want to just, take it," I rubbed the back of my neck," I mean, if you're waiting for someone or something... I can't just..."
A look of understanding crossed her face, and she looked back up, smiling warmly. "James," she whispered, pulling herself closer to me again, "the only thing I've been waiting for is you."
She started to smile, but didn't have time to finish because I pressed my lips onto hers so fast. She gasped and kissed me back, wrapping her arms around my neck. I tangled my fingers into her perfect brown hair and smiled into her perfect kiss.*****end of flashback***
Sophie POV
"Oh my..." Gwen whispered when I finished.
"Well, our Soph took a bit of a walk on the wild side, swimming in the river at night, kissing boys on the first date!" Drew said, smiling at me.
"Yeah." I laughed, "got a little swept up in all the romance I guess."
"Wow," Gwen was still gaping at me," that's so sweet."
"Yeah" Sophie smiled dreamily. "It really was, I'm so glad I got him."James POV
Riley, Sean, and Noah all looked at me when I finished telling my story.
"Bro!" Sean said when I finished, slapping me on the back, "I need some tips."
We all laughed, I smiled, thinking back to how amazing that night had been, I couldn't wait to see Sophie again, but I didn't want to spend all day talking about me.
"But come on guys, tell me about your nights, with Drew?" I looked at Riley, he actually blushed a little, chuckling. "And what about Gwen? Hmmmmm?" Noah laughed happily.
"No doubt about it," Noah said, "11th is going to be our best year yet."
