chapater 25: reunion

(very short, sorry! Experiencing writer's block. Any ideas as to where the story should go from here?)

Lila

I feel sick in the car ride to pick him up. Terribly ill. However, I can't wait to tell Tristain the good news, that I'd been accepting to Oxford! We could live together in Oxfordshire! Ahh!

We park and cross and wait to pick him up at the gates. I stand behind the roped off area, stairing at the staircase where all the arrivals popped up from under.

Faces pass in a blur...until time stops.

He's dressed like I've never seen him, in a gray suit jacket with matching trousers. He looks very...Victorian and classy. His dark tousled hair is combed, oddly, and his bright blue eyes search the crowd of welcomers.

"TRISTAIN!" I scream, "WHAT THE BLODOY HELL ARE YOU WEARING?!"

His head jerks in my direction and a wide smile spreads across his face. He walks with a slightly limp from carrying all his heavy luggage. Mum and Dad run to help him, leaving him free for a hug.

"Hello Lila" he smiles, "How are you?"

"A hell of a lot better now that you're here"

"You can get lovey dovey when we get back" Dad snaps, "There are too many people here. I don't want them to watch my daughter and her boyfriend snog"

We give each other sly looks before retreating.

Arian tells me of his whole suitcase of things that he got me and I'm thrilled. It means that he always thought of me the whole trip.

"I know you don't like things" he says, "Like, excessive presents so I picked one to give you"

"Aw!" I sigh, "I want to see the suitcase of things!"

He looks surprised.

"What, really?"

"Yeah! Come on, girls love things! It'd only bother me if I weren't sure whether you loved me or not, but I do and I want to see the stuff you brought!"

"Calm down, Lila" he chuckled, "I'll show you when we get home"

I am acting like a child, but I'm just so happy now that Tristain is back! Dad asks him all about his business stuff and I drone out. I don't like business jargon.

When we get home and start unloading Tristain's luggage, I try to feel for the right one. Maybe it's the red one? It's lighter than the others...

"It's the black one, Lila" Tristain chuckles, shouldering is laptop bag. Wait...Mum took the black one! I hurry inside and take it from Mum before dragging it up to my bedroom. Tristain follows behind me and stands at the door as I unzip it.

I gasp in awe of all the things. It's like he bought an entire souvenir shop! I pull out a Gucci perfume bottle. I see where he tried to scratch off the price sticker, but it was a lot of money.

"F*ck!" I cry, "How much did you spend?!"

"Not much" Tristain says in that voice, the one that I know means he's lying.

"I--I don't...f*cking hell" I pick up a lovely porcelein doll. It's so beautiful...with stunning red hair and glass green eyes and the most intricate Victorian style dress.

"Tristain...how did you...?"

"I remember you used to complain about all the hand me down toys you got from James. And once, just once you pointed out a porcelein doll in a magazine. I dont' remember it well but I have a feeling it looked like this. I saw it in a antique shop in France"

Tristain looks smug as I cover my mouth, in shock at the maginificent present. All of this, really. He spent fortunes on it, I'm sure!

I grab him and pull him to me forcefully, giving him the fullest, longest kiss ever. I feel relieved to finally touch his lips after so long, and finally being in warm, familiar arms.

"I love you" I whisper. For him to remember those small details about me....he really did love me my whole life! GOD I'M SO LUCKY!
