chapter 13: Tristain's Shopping
(another short chapter)
Tristain's POV
I get off the phone with Michael. He's been telling about the business stuff. Me, him and Tyler have bought this company called Reauflou, some French company that specilises in the finance sector. Tyler and Michael have researched it a whole lot. Tyler owns his own firm and Michael's got another company, the one he started. I'm just the old friend who's brilliant with the stock market. We've teamed up and bought the company and Michael called to say he's faxed everything to my home printer and laptop.
Well, now that I'm rich.
A ring, I've decided. Not a wedding ring or engagement one, but just a nice, simple ring. I remember Lila telling me how she hates gold for being such an ugly colour (only Lila) so I'll be her silver or platinum, or somet silvery precious metal. Engrave our names on it and "I love you" is whatI have planned.
I'm not sure how this "romance" things work and all I know is from the movies. They're damn awful though. The hell are there going to be fu**ing rose petals if get it off, or no way am I going to blabber about how much I love her.
Love is expressed by what one does, not say. God, sometimes I want to murder these bloody film makers or these horrid romance writers and knock sense into them.
For Mum, I've gotten bear earrings. Everyone knows she's obsessed with earrings. For Dad, I've got him a singing fish. He's always wanted one and always expressed jealousy when we went to Tom Lachlan's pub every weekend back in England. For Auntie Cate, I've bought her soothing waterfall in a pot, with stones and everything. The water flows when one turns on the switch. For Uncle (I just call him Uncle) I've bought a jar of English air (with a jar or English soil and English water) for all the times he's talked about missing England.
I look up the ideal jeweler decide to team up with Auntie Cate for the mission.
"Auntie Cate, I want to get Lila this present for Buddhmas, but I require a car. Do you mind if I use yours and do you mind coming with me?"
"Of course not. Where are we going to?"
"A jeweler"
"Oooh" her green eyes widen with excitement. They look just like Lila's, so I automatically like Auntie Cate more than Uncle. "That's intimate"
"To the car then?"
"Yeah"
The car is European, with the steering wheel on the right side of the car (meaning the left side) The passenger seat is on the right.
The roads are all wrong. I noticed this before but...god it feels wrong.
"Are you all right, darling?" asks Auntie Cate.
"The roads are wrong. People are driving on the wrong side!"
"I was like that on my first try. I can drive, if you want" I pull over eagerly and allow Cate to take the wheel.
"Please don't mention this to anyone, especially not Lila. I won't hear the end of it"
"I won't, promise" she says. After a long silence: "What's going on between you and Lila? You seem more chummy than before"
"Um...you won't get mad at me if I tell you?"
"As long as you're not blackmailing her" We both laugh at that.
"No..it's that I...em" God, how can I say this? "Lila's kind of like my bird"
"You're girlfriend?! Did I hear you correctly?!" She gives a sharp look that reminds me of Lila so much.
"Yeah...." Today, I will die.
"The bloody fu**! Are you serious?!"
Whoa, Auntie Cate never curses! I look at her like she's grown a pig's tail out of her behind.
"Sorry" she apologises, "But bloody hell, Tristain! You're cousins! Your six yeares older than she is! If Tom finds out about this...."
"I'll surely be dead when he does"
"You will. So that's why you're buying her jewelry!"
