THE pressure was on, the seconds on the clock running down fast and the Ravens were down by four. Seeing Lucas had possession but was double teamed, Daphne ran down the side, getting open for the ball. The second it passed from Lucas' hands to hers, her opponent slipped in front, doing his best to block and with his height, Daphne knew she'd never get it over his head. And he knew it too, confident smirk plastered in place as he taunted "It's okay, babe, I guess girls like you just ain't made for basketball."
Daphne scoffed jumping up and when he followed suit, she quickly crouched, dribbling the ball right through his legs before taking the shot. The crowd cheered as the ball swished through the net and she turned to the boy with a smirk "It's okay, babe, I guess guys like you just can't handle girls like me."
"Time out!" Whitey called and Daphne jogged her way over to the team huddle.
"Nice move, Little Scott." Coach Durham praised and Daphne smiled in surprise as some of the team pat her on the back in agreement "But now it's down to the wire, so we're running black for Nathan. If they double you, fight through them and take your shot when we have five seconds left. Let's go."
Tim put his hand out and the rest of the team followed suit "Ravens on three. One, two, three, Ravens!"
"So, a quick time out and the Ravens take to the court, their undefeated record at stake, 18 seconds left on the clock. They need a basket to tie, or a 3-pointer for the win." The announcer spoke as the captivated crowd watched the game unfolded "Jagielski to the inbound finds Daphne Scott out top. We're under 10 seconds now."
Daphne pivoted, groaning when she realised Lucas was blocked and bounced it towards her only option.
"Scott dumps it down to Nathan Scott," the boy scowled as he was covered by two opposing players "and he's double teamed, but he forces up a 7-footer." He took the risk, sending the ball soaring through the air but the crowd groaned as it bounced off the basket "It kicks off the heel of the rim—Daphne Scott, though with an offensive rebound, with under 5 seconds on the clock."
Daphne swiped the ball before the opposing team could, sending it to Lucas who'd finally gotten a break.
"Scott out to Lucas Scott, he is behind the 3-point line. The Ravens are going to win or lose it right here."
Daphne's heart pounded loud in her ears, the sounds of the crowd drowned out, the cheerleaders muted as she watched the ball soar through the air, circling the basket once, twice— it went in!
