AN UNKINDNESS OF RAVENS PT.1

DAPHNE Scott didn't know much about her mother, not when the woman had dropped her off on her unsuspecting father's doorstep when she was just two days old, never to be seen again. But after sixteen years, she knew her father very well, and she knew that Keith Scott was very much in love with Karen Roe.
"Just tell her how you feel." Daphne groaned in frustration as she passed her father whatever tool he required next whilst he worked under the hood of an old Ford pickup "I mean, you're not getting any younger."
Keith scoffed, raising his head to raise an eyebrow at his daughter "Are you calling me old?"
She folded her arms across her chest, returning the expression "If the orthopaedic slipper fits."
"I got those for free from a customer!" Keith defended, pointing an oil coated finger her way "And you got the matching pair."
"Which you could've give to Aunt K if you weren't a big chicken and too afraid to tell her you're in love with her." Daphne shot back.
Keith sighed and shook his head "I'm not in love with Karen." He couldn't be. She was once upon a time in love with his brother after all "Now don't you have a game to get to?"
Daphne sighed as she looked to the clock, seeing she was indeed on the verge of being late "Fine, change the subject but we will reconvene this conversation at a later date."
"Yeah, you got it, kid." Keith mocked before smiling slightly "Go kick some ass."
"I always do." Daphne smirked as she gave a two fingered salute, grabbing her skateboard and heading out of her fathers auto shop floor "Don't wait up!"

TREE Hill was renowned for one thing: basketball. There wasn't a patron who didn't love the game (well, except maybe Haley James, but even she would sit through a game for her two best-friends if she wasn't working) and Daphne was no exception. She'd grown up with the sport, Keith teaching her a thing or two he'd picked up during his high school years or from his overbearing father's attempts to coach, but most of the skill Daphne accumulated came from daily pick-up game's at the River Court with her cousin and their friends. The only place they played basketball after the Tree Hill junior league mishap.
The game was already started by the time Daphne skated onto the court, joining Lucas as she always did. The Scott cousins came as a matching set, each born into the world with only a single parent to love them, who came together to form their only little dysfunctional family unit. Keith and Daphne with Karen and Lucas, the people Dan Scott forgot.
