"We've had reports that you haven't been out of the house for a few days." one of the officers begins.
The other adds: "Is everything OK Mr Adams?"
I stare into thin air. This was awful. "I haven't been out of the house," I say, "Is that a crime, nowadays?" I chuckle to myself. These officers were so amateur.
The first officer says: "People must have been worried about you..."
After he says that I stop listening.
"I have no friends out there..." I think to myself. "All of my friends are right here." At the thought of my girls, I totally block out the sound of the officer and listen out for them. Crying and screaming and banging on the walls. "It's ok." I accidentally say aloud. Crap!"Excuse me, Sir?" the second officer asks.
"I'm sorry," I reply, "I have just come down with a cold, that's all." I muffle up a reassuring cough and add a few little sniffs on at the end.
"Well if that's all then we'll hope you get better, Sir." One of the officers says on behalf of them both. The other one nods in agreement and they both wait in anticipation for me to let them out.
"Police." I think to myself as I close the door behind them without another word.
I pull the curtain back slightly so that I can just make sure they do get on their way. After, a couple of exchanged glances and laughs and giggles, they leave me and my girls alone to complete our unfinished business.
"Now, where we're we?" I say, before stumbling across the dresses on the table. "Oh yes!" I exclaim, before routing through my wardrobe once more...
