"Girls. The song is a scratch tonight. The mic for the cello keeps buzzing. They can't make it stop. They will work on it, but we can't risk the feedback tonight." Benny told us. "I'm sorry girls. I know you were looking forward to it."
We shrugged it off. It would be okay. We could do it another night. Our normal set went fine and we went to our dressing room until we could go home. The shows are piped into the dressing rooms. Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it annoying. Tonight was an annoying night. I didn't want to hear his voice. We all sat there, hoping Benny would be ready to go soon when the boys did the part of the show where they introduce the band. Liam was notorious for signing random songs during this part. Tonight was one of the nights. He introduced the keyboard player and started to sing along with the song he choose. The opening notes made my heart stop. It was a song my grandfather used to sing it to me when I was a little girl. It was 'Beth' by Kiss. I listened to a few notes before running to the side of the stage to watch. Liam was sitting on the edge of the stage, singing:
Beth I hear you calling
But I can't come home right now
Me and the boys are playing
And we just can't find the sound
Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them calling
Oh Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do
You say you feel so empty
That our house just ain't our home
I'm always somewhere else
And you're always there alone
Just a few more hours
And I'll be right home to you
I think I hear them calling
Oh Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do
By the end of the song, he was crying. Tears streaming down his face, nose running, he tried to hide his face from the camera's but they got him, on the screens, crying. Over a song? Or over me? Why was he doing to this me, anyhow? Max came a dragged me away. "Benny's ready. We can go home."
"Why is he doing this to me, Max?" I asked.
Max sighed. "You have already said, millions of times, that you don't believe that he wanted to break up with you, right? You even wrote about it. Maybe you are right?" I looked back at the stage one last time, then followed Max. I couldn't think about it, not yet.
"Well, the feedback from the mic is a problem with the mic itself. They sound tech ordered a new one, but it would be here until we get to Glendale. Are you okay with waiting? The album is ready. We could drop in now, if we wanted. Release a few songs online? It's already up on iTunes for pre-order, just without titles." Benny said.
