Odettes Prov
6th Day
The day after Francoeur awoke I could bare it no longer. Lucille came with me as we arrived at The Rare Bird. I was more than overjoyed to see my little sister and we held each other tightly. I wondered if she changed at all for it felt like years since I saw her last. Yes and no. She had gotten a little taller with a more young womanly touch to her body, for of course she was now on the brink of turning fourteen. The two past years flew away with her. It made me feel guilty that I forgot how much she grown and seeing her now after so much has happened, it was almost astonishing. But still young, her long dark hair still loss as it always was, skin oddly pale since she loves going outside in the sun, but it was always paler than my natural sun kissed shade. Soft blue eyes shining, they mirrored her happy smile. She wore a smart looking dress almost too smart for a girl her age but she wouldn't wear anything that made her look like anything otherwise and hence meeting her you would think nothing would suit her more than a sharp but still young looking skirt. With reasonable stocking, stylish black Mary Janes and a famine fashionable girls waistcoat and jacket. Her head adorned with a beri. Our cousins performance fashion choices must be rubbing off on the younger generation.
While admiring her ensemble Chanel lept in the arms of Lucille, of course missing her favorite cousin as well.
Over tea Lucille and I tried our best to explain everything to her without letting out information but because Chanel is Chanel, she persisted and urged and argued until we decide that it was best she knew. Everything.
Since the investigation was about our family she had a right to know. But she knew we were holding something back with those all knowing eyes of hers.
Lucille and I both broke and said we would explain everything in full the day after tomorrow and to do so we were going to take her somewhere special.
This seemed to please her and she continued to sip her tea with satisfaction. That night I talked the situation over with Francoeur, he was just getting off the high of the sedatives. He only said he was a little sore and he now had a shallow crevice where the huge hole was in his abdomen, now almost completely healed.
Surprisingly he was very excited that my sister was going to learn the secret we all knew, I shared that feeling with him that a part of my family was joining the one we created with all our friends and him having another person to know his true form but I also saw a little ting of fear and I felt it with him as well. The possibility of rejection. But Chanel was thoughtful and never ran or screamed, now that I think about it I had never seen her ever afraid. It would be a shock if she reacted harshly to Francoeur but the thought I knew scratched mine and Francoeurs mind as the next day we all discussed how the situation would be handled the day that she came
Which was............
............
The 7th Day"Wow, everyone always wonders about this place! Is the inside just as massively intriguing?!" Chanel lifted one dark eyebrow which my eyebrows could never do, eyeing the outside of the monumental glass building.
I had fetched her from the Cabaret while Carlotta sent her love. Taking care of two Caberets in two different locations had made her even more busy but I could tell she loved it and was happily engaged in the work.
"I should say so! You might want to take off your jacket as soon as you come in as well" I grinned opening the door for her. She strode in and smiled at the forest in the middle of Paris, she probably though she would ever need to go to the jungle since the forest was right here. "Amazing..." She awed as she took of her - right out of storage - spring coat, taking mine off as well revealing a more airy dress.
"So were is your fiancé?!" She asked, snapping right to the point as usual. I was taken aback, as I linked arms with her, guiding us through the trees and brush "He's not my Fiancé Chanel!" I corrected but couldn't help laugh. "Well he might as well be if he's the main focus of a secret and also a secret adventure nonetheless that I couldn't be bothered to be a part of!" She stuck her nose in the air in jest of being snooty. "Besides I'm a young Lady now and at the very least know what my darling sister has been doing with a romanticizing masked musician" she pressed with a cunning grin "Oh very well father!" I teased, she sounded so much like him sometimes that it was very humorous.
Then we became silent for a few moments "How much of a twist is it?" She asked. "Twist?" I asked puzzled. "Yes, to who Monsieur Francoeur really is?" She stated. I though and said "It's not just who he is....I guess it's also what he is as well....and also what he is to me..." She was silent but she glanced at me with reassuring eyes, her calm blues, and I felt like she already knew everything...
Which was absurd but she always had that effect
Lucille held us both by the waist when we met with her approaching the great tree in the little field where I sometimes napped and slept. A picnic was laid out for everyone. Raoul kissed Chanel's hand friendly and winking a welcome and she shock Emile's and Maud's hands saying how delightful it was to finally meet them. She shock the professors as well which he seemed fairly impressed with her nature as she received a bow from Charles which she returned with a giggling curtsy. One guest was missing, more suitably the host.
"It seems like the talk of the town isn't accounted for, where is our hero then?" She asked taking a seat on the ground "What do you mean by that? What's Paris been saying?" Lucille asked for all of us.
Chanel wiped up a quick summery of the cities gossip where the police have a secret special team and Francoeur is part of it amongst speculations that some of us may be members as well. Also since everyone hadn't herd the true story about the two Caberets lockdown and the new monster lurking about, there where hundreds of fantastical stories that spread about what was going on but where obviously untrue as most gossip was.
"So what really happened?! I want to unravel this mystery!" Chanel said eagerly. Lucille stood up timidly "I can go fetch him if he's ready" I could tell she was tense as she excused herself, I was as well.
I looked to the professor who was leaning against the trunk of the tree with Charles, they both seemed perfectly calm and seemed that the professor though that we had everything under control.
"Before he shows you, I have to tell you" I began taking Chanel's hands seriously. I was going to say it.
"He's not human. Well, he is human but not like everyone else is. Not in most ways but at the same time in many.." I could feel myself started to ramble and I looked at Chanel's inquisitive expression "Odette, I think I'll understand" she said. Maybe it was my nerves but it felt like she was taking this much better than I did when I found out.
Just then Francoeur and Lucille came walking hand in hand to join us again. Francoeur had his disguise on. All of his inhuman features peaking out covered with a mask, chapo and a pair of gloves.
"Good evening Mademoiselle Dasianna" Franceour said to Chanel politely,in as pleasant a tone he could muster which was in truth very admirable and I stood to take his other two hands in is glove, squeezing it tightly.
"Oh it's Chanel Monsieur,we can skip the formalities since I'm about to learn all your secrets" she joked with a warm smile. "Then I'd very much like you calling me by my name as well" he said seeming to soften and his eyes even smiled under his mask. We three sat down and everyone else crowded around us.
I felt like a little girl again, telling secrets to friends on a warm summer day. I felt confertable and safe for some reason. Maybe it was we were all surrounded by warm friendship.
"One thing that's important it that I don't look like everyone else. I'm very different in that way" Franceour started nervously "So we thought it best to show you first" I offered, helping Franceour. Chanel only nodded seriously. Francoeur glanced down at me and I nodded encouragingly.
Letting go of my hand he slowly took of his chapo and quickly afterwards is mask. He stared at Chanel as did everyone else to see her reaction but the only diference in her nature is that her eyes became much wider and she adopted a thinking expression, all the while still nodding.
Franceour was especially flustered and started taking of his gloves and rolling up his sleeve to revel his four arms. He looked back at her, now expected a reaction now as was I but Chanel only let out "Oh..." Slightly surprise.
"Oh?!" Some of us questioned in unison.
"Well this is kind of unexpected..." She Said with a thoughtful but somewhat disappointed tone . "And that's to be expected!" I laughed but harshly, I don't know why I was mad. "No, I mean that I thought he was going to be a werwolf or vampire or-" she dandies to herself "You knew he wasn't human?!" Emile asked also quiet puzzled. "In a sense, he is just so much of a mystery and it was like in the films and books! An inhuman being wooing a mortal! Oh it's even more romantic in real life!!!" Chanel gushed now excited at the prospect.
"But this isn't Shelly or Stoker like, not at all. Just the whole him being a humanoid ....fly?....was the unexpected part." She finished.
Everyone was speechless then Francoeur chuckled lightly and corrected "Flea actually"The time seemed to fly by with all the tales that needed to be told. After listening to everyone's retelling of before I met Francoeur where just as remarkable when I first heard them but I realized that mine(and now Chanel's) part was only a small one of the huge story that we were all connected by.
By the time the light shining though the glass walls darkened we were all spent and voices sore from story telling. Tea helped and soothed and Chanel nibbled on a finger-sandwich that Charles had prepared and brought out a time ago.
She seemed very content which I thought strage but her understanding of situations always shocked me. To make sure I asked if she was alright and she responded fairly normally "delightful" she smiled, eating the rest of her sandwich.
"Oh shoot! Odette I think it got fairly late, should I be going back?" She asked, but it was eminent that she didn't want to leave. "I think so, the time did fly" I say getting up from my set on the ground.
"Charles can drive and escort her home, don't worry he's an excellent driver" the professor spoke for the first time in the evening "I don't doubt it!" Chanel laughed and I said I would walk her to the automobile which was Catharine No.2. Raoul seemed to be getting less upset every time someone "borrowed" his Cathrine.
Chanel said her farewells to everyone and when it came to Francoeur, he gingerly stick out one of his hands to shack but Chanel gave him a warm embrace as instead. She motion so she could whisper something to him. Once she had finished Francoeurs cheeks had already turned crimson and he embarrassingly uttered a thank you.
She waved and once we where far away enough she gushingly said
"Oh Odette, this is all like it should be in a fantastical novel, or a worth while penny dreadful, both are apt."
I didn't want to ruin her happy mood for the whole ordeal but I had to remind her "But Chanel! There's a man out after our family!"
She frowned now, the only true one I seem that evening "Oh yes, there's that particular problem as well..." "Yes! A very big problem!" I persisted.
She rolled her eyes but I could tell she was concerned too "The police will get a lead and if not I'll chase him down myself"
"Chanel, it's not a laughing matter!" I scolded. "I know, I'm sorry. It's just you worry too much about everything. You overthink things and such" she said.
"I have good reason" was my only defence.
Chanel fell silent in thought for a moment and said "It didn't seem like he wanted to hurt you Odette, that man. He might have some kind of Vendetta against father but I honestly don't think he wants to hurt us. He wants something else..." She fell into thought again but I had to interrupt her "We'll decipher all this another time. All I know is that we're being shut in the dark.." I said. "We'd have to ask father about this when him and Tarrent come back don't we?" She more stated and we both dreaded it.
"Another time..." I only said as she put on her coat and we ventured into the chilly spring night air.
Charles tipped his hat as he opened the passenger door for Chanel, he seemed to get there before we had, possibly buy the branches of the trees.
Before the door was shut I remembered to ask her something
"Chanel, what did you whisper to Francouer that made him so frazzled?"
She grinned and her blue eyes shone with sincerity again
"I said he was as handsome as always and that my sister was a lucky women"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
