Third Person POV
This is Berk. And it gets pretty cold. All the time. Most of them are Vikings with strong wills and stubbornness. The main downside to them living here are the pests. You think rats are bad? Try dragons. That's right, dragons. They steal food and constantly burn down buildings. You're probably wondering who the small, nimble small girl is and why she isn't dead yet. I'll get there, but for now: just watch these dragons tear up the place and cringe.
A Viking started to punch a Monstrous Nightmare. The girl quickly hurried out to deliver him a sword. There was fighting all around her. She dodges any dragons. She's very agile but lean, short, and thin. This is seen as a weakness. Crazy right? She quickly delivered the sword. When she runs back to the forge, Hiccup was there. He's practically her brother. She washed up on Berk a few years ago when she was just a baby. She was the same age as Hiccup. Kori came with a note that said "Kori Dragneel" so that's what they named her. The chief (Hiccups dad) took me in as his own daughter. Despite his best effort, Hiccup and she just wouldn't be more Viking. Unfortunate? Maybe. They had both wanted to kill a dragon, him more so than her which you will see in a sec.
A house soon caught fire. The fire patrol ran up and started dumping water on the fire. The kids were Hiccup and Kori's age. They walked away to refill there buckets and an explosion happened behind them, cool-guy style (or girl, I suppose). Hiccup was staring at Astrid, the leader. He wanted to kill a dragon so he could impress her, due to her being his crush. Kori walked past Hiccup.
"Close your mouth, or you'll catch bugs," she said closing his mouth for him. She acted more like the older one. After all, Hiccup often got into trouble while Kori obediently followed directions. The two had both been training with Gobber, the head blacksmith. Kori was progressing faster than Hiccup so she knew more than him. But they were both better than most people. Sadly, this didn't count as popularity points. Gobber said something to Hiccup and Kori heard him tell them to stay put. Sadly, the second he left, Hiccup raced out with one of his machines. Kori stayed put, fixing a sword. She heard yelling and crashing, but was intent on her task, then she heard the chief sounding super angry. She quickly looked outside and saw him holding Hiccup and yelling at him. Kori raced over.
"I actually caught it this time dad! Please, you have to believe me! We have to go get it!" He was saying. Stoic didn't look like he was buying it. That's when Kori stepped in.
"I'll take him home," she piped up.
"Gobber go with them." He hobbled after them.
The other kids made crude and rude remarks at the two of them as they past. Except Snotlout. He wolf whistled at Kori, who gave no indication she heard him. She had lost herself to daydreaming ways to improve their homes and only caught pieces of the conversation between their mentor and her adopted brother. When they got home Hiccup started to run through the house towards the back door.
"Hold it!" Kori shouted. He froze. "And just where do you think you're going?"
"To the woods." Hiccup and her never keep secrets. She sighed. "I really did catch a Nightfury this time, Kori! You can come with me! Dad didn't say we couldn't go!"
"Fine," she said with a roll of her green eyes. Hiccup smiled and took off, the ravenette following right behind him. They looked through the woods. The duo couldn't find it anywhere!
Hiccup got super frustrated and smacked a tree branch. Which came back and hit him. Normally, Kori would make sure he was all right but she was frozen with her brain zooming 98 miles per hour. Her eyes told her what was there and her brain thought it knew what it was about but it was highly unlikely that Hiccup could bring down a dragon. And yet it was what her eyes told her. The tree was bent and the bushes were nearly squashed. She pointed her observation and reasoning out to Hiccup.
"Good going Kori!" He said smiling and bounding off, her following.
The two peeked above a hill. There it was, tied up and unmoving; the deadly Nightfury.
"He's gorgeous," Kori breathed. Hiccup slid down the hill towards the creature. He raised his knife.
"I'll kill you. I'll take out your heart and take it to my father. I AM A VIKING!" But if anyone else had been there they would have seen in his eyes: he couldn't do it. He literally couldn't kill a dragon. Kori watched from a safe distance as Hiccup cut the dragon free. Once free, the dragon pounced on her brother. Kori screamed and ran forward to tackle the Nightfury, but before she had taken five steps in he jumped off and went bounding into the woods. Hiccup tried to stand and then fell. Kori tried in vain to awaken him.
"Hiccup... Hiccup... Hiccup, wake up!" she shouted. She checked his pulse and looked for scratches. She desperately wished she had brought water with her. When he finally stood up, they walked back to the house together, discussing what had happened before falling silent as the roofs of viking cottages drew nearer and nearer.
Hiccup stealthily climbed the stairs, but their father noticed any way. They both started talking at the same time. And Kori stood in the background as usual, not being noticed.
"You first," Hiccup said. Kori saw where this was going. She tried to signal to him to go first but he didn't look her way.
"I've enrolled both you and Kori into dragon killing school. You start tomorrow. I will be leaving to go hunt for the nest so you two need to take care of each other. Here is your ax, son, and here is a knife for you, Kori." The latter one listed threw Hiccup a dirty look that would make a dead body die again if looks could kill.
"Oh man, I knew I should've gone first. Dad, I don't want to kill a dragon." Their dad laughed.
"Of course you do. That's all you two ever talk about!"
"What he means, dad," Kori said cutting in, "is that he is physically, mentally, and morally unable to kill a dragon."
"You two will go to dragon killing school, whether you want to or not! You two start in the morning." And with that happily impossible thought, he left.
Everyone in front of them was talking about how it's no fun unless you get a scar out of it. Naturally, Hiccup embarrassed himself. But Kori knew they had more pressing matters. She was thinking about a way to possibly get out of this scenario when Snotlout strutted up to her.
"Hey, Kori. Don't worry about not being able to kill a dragon, I'll protect you." His face got closer to hers as he said this. Kori turned around and coughed.
"Sorry, I might be allergic to bad flirting."
"Then how about we speed things up." Snotlout put his arm around the girl.
"Excuse me sir, I do believe this belongs to you," she said removing his arm from her shoulders and dropping it so it hung at his side. "Please keep your personal belongings with you or they may be stolen." With that, she walked into line next to Hiccup and rested her arm on his shoulder. Gobber was our mentor and class was in session.
