Third POV

It was the next day. Hiccup took Kori to where the Nightfury was grounded. He showed her how he had befriended the dragon.

"It's ok, Toothless. She's a friend. Kori meet Toothless, Toothless, Kori." Hiccup had a lot of nervous energy built up as he introduced them. Kori gently put her hand on his nose. He seemed to like her.

"Aren't you cute," she said. He snorted. Hiccup smiled. "Ok, I'm going to need to measure your tail so I can make you a new one so you can fly. Are you ok with that?" she asked. He seemed to nod and Kori smiled at him. Hiccup stayed at his head and she walked towards his tail. She took out her measuring tape and carefully measured dimensions, writing them down in Hiccups sketchbook with arrows pointing to certain parts of the tail. Kori also ran her hands along Toothless's tail to get inspiration and see how it worked.

"All finished!" she proclaimed, closing the book.

"Great!" Hiccup replied. "I'll make it tomorrow." Kori smiled. The entire day they hung out with Toothless and went swimming. Kori got to see Toothless try to draw. Hiccup and Kori gave Toothless some fish they had brought but when Hicccup tried to toss him an eel he growled and went into attack mode. Kori made a mental note of that. All too soon the sun started to set and they had to go home. They chatted the whole way.

that night, Kori sat thinking, as she usually did. But instead of letting her mind wander she focused her brain power on the tail; this may be the most important project she has ever attempted. It will be a lot harder than her normal projects. This one would involve less metal but many small parts and pieces. It may take months or hours to complete. Then she thought of tests. Clearly, she was going to do them. The prototype may be dangerous at first and her father would be very, very angry if his adopted "daughter" survived and the next chief of Berk did not. It would take some convincing but Kori knew she could convince Hiccup to stay off Toothless until she tried to prototype. She thought a little more and figured she should save really good fabric for the actual tail. She visualized blueprints and measurements and forging and creation. With all this visualizing she didn't realize . . . she had fallen into dreams.

The next morning Kori decided to skip breakfast so she could see what materials she had to work with. She walked to the forges, praying that Hiccup wouldn't be beat up, and danced around the shelves grabbing parts and pieces and dumping them all on her work space. At the end, Her space was a vast accumulation of metal rods, hunks of steel, rings of metal, brown fabric, a little bit of wood, and a few gears. She sorted everything into piles before she perked up. Footsteps. Heavier than Hiccup, lighter than a grown up, and no mis-matched walking of a peg leg. It was one of her classmates.

"Hey! Girl that almost died! I, uh, I forgot your name. Where are you?" Whew. Just Tuffnut.

"Yeah?" Kori said popping out from behind a shelf and almost scaring the long-haired boy out of his wits.

"Food. Gobber told me to take it to you or I wouldn't have done it." Kori's nose twitched. He was lying.

"No thank you."

"But Gobber said you have to eat!"

"Then tell him I said no."

"Please?"

"Why do you care about my health? And we need to be at the Academy, like, now." Kori hung up her apron as nonchalant as possible before leisurely walking to the arena. On the way she saw Snotlout offered the food. He ended up spitting it out and complaining about it being made of mud.
