I quietly knocked on the door to Audrey's room before coming in. Audrey sat on her bed with her laptop before she put it on the side table as I say down. "Are you okay?" I asked.
Audrey shook her head. Her eyes were so bloodshot it was so unreal. Audrey grabbed her laptop and showed me the video. It was a thing of Rachel. Rachel Kay Murray: You'll always be beautiful.
Just the title made me want to cry. After the video was over I hugged Audrey while she cried into my shoulder. "Its fine. Everything will be okay." I told Audrey the same words she always used to tell me when I was taken to the hospital and I would just lay there and cry.
I gasped for breath and gripped Audrey's hand tighter before my dad pulled the car to a stop. "Daddy it hurts." I gasped. I watched as the door opened and I was pulled out of the car, out of Audrey's grasp and put on a gurney. "It'll be okay Kota. It'll be fine." I heard Audrey say as a breathing mask was slipped onto my face. I cried as I was taken away from them. What was happening to me? My tiny body was in so much pain it was unreal. I could barely breathe and felt like I was going to pass out and I eventually did.
I glanced over at the chair beside my bed at Audrey who's eyes looked straight at me when she realized I was awake. "Hey. How do you feel?" Audrey asked coming over and sitting on the side of the bed. I knew she had heard something by the way her face was. "Okay I guess. What did they say?" I asked Audrey. She clearly didn't want to tell me. "Audrey please." I begged. Audrey sighed. "You... You have cancer, Dakota. You have thyroid cancer and it spread to your lungs." Audrey told me. I looked at Audrey before I broke down. "Why does everything bad always happen to me?" I cried as Audrey hugged me.
"Its fine. Everything will be okay."

I walked down the hallway with Audrey and Noah. "Are you sure you want to film the game highlights? I can do it if you're not feeling up to it." Noah told Audrey who shook her head. "No I need the distraction." Noah looked at his phone.
"Riley still hasn't texted me back. I went full geek with the star gazing app." Noah said as Audrey turned the lock on her locker.
"Game on. Or I can totally stay and keep your batteries charged." Noah said. Audrey shook her head closing the locker. "Go. I can do this. You have other batteries to charge." Audrey told Noah. I stifled a laugh. "You are the definition of da bomb." Noah told Audrey backing away. "Make good choices. Have fun."
I walked into the gym beside Audrey who opened the camera up. "Welcome." Mayor Maddox said. "It has been an emotional week for Lakewood with the loss of two lovely young souls. Nina Patterson and Rachel Murray." Audrey clicked a button on the camera. "Let's have a moment of silence." It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
I'd say most people were having a moment of silence for Nina and not Rachel.
