I watched as the banner came down and red liquid poured over me and a form landed at my feet.

I looked at the face.

Jake.

I screamed. It wasn't like one of those fear screams. It was a blood curling sadness scream. He was dead. He was dead. He was dead. He was dead.

Jake Fitzgerald, the love of my life, my first everything was now laying at my feet, dead.

"Dakota!" Audrey went to run up to me but was stopped by Eli. "Its evidence. She's evidence and so is everything up there. I'll stay with her. I won't leave her." Eli told Audrey, walking up to the stage.

"Dakota, I can't touch you but I'm going to stand right here okay? I promise I won't leave you even if the schools on fire. Police are in their way." Eli told me. I just barely nodded as I stared down at the body of my lost lover.

Jake was my first everything. First kiss, first boyfriend, first love, first time. Now he was laying at my feet dead.

I nearly jumped out of my skin when the police came in. "I'm sorry but you need to go." The sheriff told Eli.

"Please. No. Let him stay. Don't make him go." I cried. Maggie ran up when she realized it was me covered in blood. "Okay, Dakota. He can stay. Everything's going to be okay. Just let me get some pictures of you and you can go clean up."

Maggie took pictures of me and I didn't even know she did. I felt them wrap a towel around me before Eli picked me up. "I can't go into the girls locker room because you know. But Audrey, Emma, and Brooke should be in there. You'll be fine. I'll wait on you when you're done." Eli told me. I nodded walking into the locker room where my friends were.

"Are you okay?" Audrey asked. I shook my head. "My boyfriend dropped dead at my feet. I'm not okay." I said. I got in the shower and washed the blood off.

The blood ran down the drain and I used the sound of the shower to drown out my crying. He died. He died. He died.

Jake Fitzgerald was dead.

He's dead.

He's dead.

He's dead.

He's dead.

"Dakota?" I heard Audrey ask. "Dakota, it's okay. When you're done come on out." I turned the water off and wrapped a towel around me before walking out.

"Did.... Did they give me anything else to wear?" I asked. Brooke grabbed a folded sun dress from beside her. "They gave you a cheerleader uniform but I figured that you'd want something else." I nodded to Brooke before changing, coming back out.

I nearly tripped when I came back out and Emma caught me as I started to sob again.

"Kota," Emma said. "Its okay. You'll be okay." Emma brushed my hair back before I looked up at her. "I need to see Eli." I whispered.

Emma looked at me before giving a nod. She held onto my shoulders as we walked out of the locker room. "Dakota," Eli turned around as soon as he seen me. "Are you okay now?" I nodded hugging Eli.

My legs felt weak. They felt like jello. "Woah. Dakota." Eli said when I stumbled. "S- sorry." I whispered going to stand straight again but Eli wouldn't let me. He had hold of me.

I watched as Noah came up to us. "Hey, Dakota. The cops want to talk to you." Noah said. I gave a nod, following him down the hall, Eli still holding my shoulders.

Sheriff Acosta- Miguel held the door open as I came in and sat down. I watched as Eli sat down outside the door. Once the door was closed behind him Sheriff Acosta came over and hugged me.

"How you holding together, Kota?" Miguel asked. I shook my head as tears ran down my face. "I'm not. He fell dead at my feet and I was covered in his blood. I loved him and now he's dead." I cried.

Miguel stroked my hair before I sat down. "I know you didn't do this, Dakota but we still have to ask you questions. Are you gonna be alright?" I nodded.
