I sat up in the morning wondering why I was alone and where my mum was. When realization hit me my stomach turned in guilt and disgust. I pulled myself up off the couch that my mother once slept on and walked to my already packed stuff in the now worn kitchen.

"I guess this is it" I sighed to myself as I pulled on my jeans and a green tank top. "You better still be out there daddy" I smiled to myself in what seemed like false hope.

I walked over to the door stuff in hands at I took one last look at the house. The curtains, once a soft and inviting baby pink was now worn, ripped, and faded brown. The floor was way more creaky then it was before the start, but I didn't mind I enjoyed the sounds. It made me feel like I wasn't completely alone.

I sighed. "This is it" I let out a small tear but wiped it away as soon as I felt it on my cheek.  I went into the back shed looking for the now worn blue tarp. Once I found it I quickly pulled it off revealing a dirt bike and a can of fuel. "I've been waiting to use you" I smiled to myself. I was Saving left over fuel just for a day like this and now the day has come to finally put it to use.

Once I filled it up a started it and headed south. Towards Atlanta.

After awhile I slowed to a stop in the middle of nowhere. I was out of gas. The now empty highway was as creepy as ever. The cars filled with supply and blood sent chills down my spine. I was about to rummage through the back of an old pickup truck when I hear the moaning. I turn to see a lone walker dragging itself towards me. I knew that if I used my gun it could attract other walkers so I pulled out a hunting knife and snuck around the cars. Right before I was about to shove the knife through the skull into the brain I heard a gunshot.  The bullet went straight into the walker standing in front of me, sending the warm gooey liquid over my face and torso. Right as I was about to turn to yell at the person for shooting so close and probably attracting walkers from the mile or two around us.

"What the hell are you doing out here" an Asian boy yelled at me, He seemed to be in his younger 20s but his face showed wear, it was covered in blood and dirt.

"I-I umm" I tried spitting out somewhat surprised to see another person since I haven't seen another person besides mom in a long time.

"Well don't just stand there, come on" he said grabbing my wrist and pulling me away from the road into the woods. We jogged along silently for awhile, him occasionally turning around and making sure I was still there and keeping pace. I was out of breath for must of it. Panting and coughing from being so out of shape.

He slowed to a walk after awhile. Before turning holding out his hand. "Glenn" I stared at his hand out of breath before grasping it.

"Arlo, call me Ari" I smiled before we started walking again. I took in my surroundings, which was nothing but woods and trees after trees. Soon the awkward silence was broken by Glenn and his probing questions.

"So, Ari, do you have a group"? He questioned looking at me before looking back ahead and walking off the trail into the woods.

"No. It was just me and my mom this whole time" I said trying to steady myself as we were trekking down a rather steep hill.

"And what happened to her?, your mother I mean?" Glenn didn't meet my eyes for this question already seeming to know what it was. My eyes watered a little bit.

"Walker" I stated coldly  hoping he didn't ask more. Luckily Glenn caught the hint and changed the subject.

"What about your dad?. Siblings?" He questioned me while helping me over an fallen tree. I was still somewhat out of breath but I knew I needed to keep going, not wanting to bother Glenn since he was helping me.

"I'm an only child, and I'm trying to find my dad"  Glenn nodded stopping and taking out a bottle of water sipping before offering me some. Gladly accepting I took a few gulps before willing my mouth and handing it back to him. "Thanks" I smiled. He responded with a warm smile.

"I hope you find your father" he said looking down before quickly looking up with a smile. "We're here" he said happily. I looked around.

"Ummm where"? He pushed me through the last few trees revealing a prison completely occupied by people and animals.

He looked at me and all I could responded with was "wow".
