I leered over the edge of the concrete the river of water washing over moss covered cars, it dragged trash and tree branches. A real gross sight of dirty water and shit from the sewers. You'd think that the smell would have faded by now. That the air would smell cleaner...

I was younger, barely about to start my trek when gravity decided to dissappear from the world I though I was going to live in. Kill or be killed, right from the get go.

This was no slum either, the image of trimmed trees and clean sidewalks came to mind with the strict standards and societal structures.

Young minds that had the world in their grasp. Decades of protest over equally and it'll just dissappear.

I hated it.

Ironic as all our strides in history would be forgotten in just a lifetime, that's even if we survived that long.
Today felt long, yesterday and the day before. I entertained the thought of a long life but drop it just as fast.

I could die today, or in a minute...best not to jinx...

I shake the thought away and regain my bearings.

I take in the destopia before me.
The sky, dark and cold. A real life horror film back drop with a dead city husk for extra.

Another damn obstacle... for what I can assume will continue for a few days.

We don't have time for this.

I turned to my brother, he was breathless, hunched over his knees and huffing out puffs of white. Dawn was in no better a shape, bracing herself against a wall with a knife in one hand, the blade no bigger than a box cutter.

" All accounted for?", Dawn broke the growing silence between us.

" No.", I didn't wast time to answer, not even hesitating for the boys sake.

" Thomas and Samantha were nowhere to be seen?", Marcus directed his question to me, disheved hair and all.

" No. ", It's the truth, why elaborate?

" Seriously?", Dawn scoffed." They were nearest the gate, they should have been the first to call out. Wh-why let the-"

" Because they weren't even at the gate.", I gripped my knifes hilt till my knuckles were white.

I tasted bile at the back of my throat, just a day?

Those bastards couldn't wait just a day.

" Anna, what are you saying? Thomas may be difficult but-"

" Don't even try to defend them. ", I snapped at Mika, shutting my sister up before she could rant on morality. " You know what the hell those freaks do. Probably why we're were nearly eaten.", I restrained my words, knowing that my argument wasn't the most popular in the group but still wanting to so much more.

" We're not going back.", I gestured out to the storm, as if it would permit." Not now, not later. The goal is to live and make it to California.
Not to waste our so few resources and time on inconvenients on the likes of them.", I reigned back, finishing my words off with my knife being put back away.

Dawn was unmoved, as always, she hasn't even looked in my direction since we got here.

That left my brother and the kids...Jack was key among the trio, his face red and body shaking in restrained cries. I eyed him, making him shifted under my gaze and move closer to my sister.

" Your better off without them.", I say coldly.

" Anna!", My sister snapped. " For christ sake at least let him calm down before you go all psycho and cold! You do this all the time to people!", Mika shouted.
