The rest of the day passed fot the two with icy stares and silences from teacher and student alike, needless to say the rumor spread. They hadn't a problem getting to class or their lockers now, for the students of West Webster High School parted a pathway like the Red Sea. Glaring at them for slapping their head cheerleader, who was considered some kind of lesser god in their minds. As if the Hughes twins didn't get enough noterirty before, their names were now considered common terminology.

After 8th hour that day, the two walked into the math room where detention was being held. Once they sat down, they immediatelt felt like fishes out of water to say the very least. The other people around them looked like patients in the nearest psychiatric hispital. with their dyed baclk hair, multiple piercings in some unmentionable places, tattos blanketting their skin, and the pale make up,  similar to that of a clown, it was enough to scare off any normal person.

"How long have we got to be here?" Rebeckah asked James.

"They said they'd let us out after 5 o'clock," he whispered. "if were lucky to get a reasonable teacher, they'll just let us sit here. But if not, we'll get a labor project."

"Labor Project?"asked Rebeckah.

"Yeah, They'll give us a job to do. Like cleaning up the teacher's lounge, scraping gum off the lunch table, or tidying up the locker bay area," explained James.

Knowing James had been in detention numerous times, Rebeckah asked, "What's the most gruesome job you've had to do?"

He winced, as if a horrible memory were coming back to him. "cleaning the boys' locker room, probably."

Rebeckah's stomach regurgitated. Instead of getting a lazy teacher to do dentention, who was perfectly okay with letting them sit in silence, they got  Ms. Hempel, elderly gym teacher who worked kids to the core and even put some on a diet plan. She scutteled in the room eyeing down her new set of laborers. "Old Snowman probably assigned her to run detention just 'cause he knew we'd be here!" James whispered to Rebeckah. But Rebeckah was too worried about the punishment she was going to recieve from Ms. Hempel, who had always held a grudge against Rebeckah for being the slowest runner.

"Get on you're feet!" barked Ms. Hempel. Afraid, even the goth kids rose. "Leave your things here and follow me don to the gym!"

"Oh no," sighed rebeckah. she had always hated gym class and hadn't stepped a foot in there since she had given up taking the class.

The school was silent and empty except for the detention kids and the janitors walking around. The lights were dimming in the building and every step they took echoed.

They all sliped and slided across the shiny gym floor which reflected their faces back at them. They lined up alphabetically accordin to last name. Looking pleased with herself, Ms. Hempel stood back and shouted, "YOu know why you're here, right? Because you're impolite and useless scum!" The word scum seemed to bounce off the gym walls and it Rebeckah and James in the face extra hard. "I'll give you a job to do and you'll do it well." The class responded with a soft murmuring. "Answer me! If I say jump than you ask how high!"

"Yes ma'm!" they replied.

"Good, she said. Ms. hempel walked into the back storage room of the gym, and following the sounds of rattling around and falling of boxes, ms. Hempel brought out with her a tub filled to it's brim  with cleaning supplies, so basically instruments of otrture to 15 and 16  year olds.

Ms. hempelhanded rags off to the other people with commands like, "Go scrub the lunch tables," or "Go wipe off the insorws in the classrooms on the second level." Or something fairly innocent like that. however, when she reached James, she eyes him down ruefully, as if deciding which fate would give him the most torture. she handed him a spatula like object an a spray bottle of mystrious liquids and said, "Go scrape the bedpans in the nurse's office."James grimaced in pain and looked to Rebeckah for a moment of need. but she couldn't do anymore than give him a sympathetic look.
