Ross’ POV

No sooner had Jessica woken I was trying to reach Nathan with the great news but my calls to his mobile were going unanswered half an hour later after Jessica woke up. I was able to reach his parents who were out at the time and detour away from what they were doing to come to the hospital to see for themselves the miracle that had occurred. After the arrived and went in to see Jess I again tried to call Nathan but his phone just rang out and going back into the room I sat at the end of Jess’ bed.

She was still weak and falling in and out of sleep but with Nathan’s parents there she was able to pep up just a little.

“Have you been able to get through to Nathan yet?.” His mother asked me.

“No, he’s not answering.”

Nathan’s parents looked at Jess and she gave a small smile and looking at me said in a quiet voice, “Don’t tell him.”

I frowned as I looked from Jessica and Nathan’s parents then asked, “Why.”

I knew how much it would mean to Nathan to know his friend was alive, why should he not tell him.

Nathan’s mum said, “Jess being the person she is wants to surprise Nathan at your wedding.”

“Um, do you think that is a good idea?” I asked worried it might all back fire.

Nathan’s parents and I all looked over at Jess and she rolled her tired eyes. “I don’t want him to see me like this.” She said and I wanted to tell her how many days and night Nathan stayed by her side but I didn’t.

Jess went on, “If you register to marry as soon as possible then it will only be a four week wait once registered to get married. I’ll still organise everything from here with the help of Nathan’s mum, you just have to make sure he agrees to get married straight away. Then on the day of the wedding I should be in better shape to appear before him.

“I don’t know Jess, Nathan will be furious with us when he finds out you survived and no one told him.”

“Let me deal with Nathan, you just get him to agree to get married straight away and I’ll take care of the rest.”

At the moment the nurse arrived to assess Jessica and so Nathan’s parent and I left. Out in the corridor I said, “How am I going to keep this from Nathan.”

“Don’t worry son,” Nathan’s dad said patting me on the back, “We’ll do this together and everything will work out alright.”

“I hope so.” I murmured still not sure how any of this was going to pan out.

When I arrived home I found my parents watching television in the living room and going in to sit with them I burst into tears. The entire ordeal had finally gotten to me but the hardest thing had not been going over to Nathan’s house to tell him what had happened.

After I told my parents everything that had happened that day, including Jess’ decision to not tell Nathan and the plan to arrange the wedding for as soon as possible.

My parents were great, they promised to help and would talk with Nathan’s parents and see if there was anything they could do that wouldn’t draw Nathan’s attention to anything going on other than a wedding. Exhausted I excused myself after a long chat with my parents and went to lie down. My parents were going to head down to the hospital to see Jess and discuss with here the details of how she wanted to plan the wedding as it had been Nathan’s wish.

Nathan’s POV

When I woke up I found I was still in my closes from the day before and as I sat and ran a hand through my hair the curls were all matted together and it felt awful. My mouth had a terrible taste in it and I felt death warmed up.

I picked up my phone on the bedside table to see what the time was when I saw 57 missed calls from Ross and 10 messages. And then I felt even worse because I remembered our conversation from the day before and as the tears began to fill my eyes I decided there was nothing I could do about Jess’ death. It wasn’t my fault and I could let this be the reason I lost Ross too.

Getting up I made my way to the bathroom and removing my smelling clothes I stood under the shower for longer than necessary but the warm water washing over my body felt refreshing. Like I washing away the part of me the had given up and as I finally stepped out of the shower I knew I couldn’t give up, nit when I had Ross, who loved me and I loved him.

Wrapping the towel around my waist I walked back into my bedroom and found Ross sitting on my bed looking rather concerned and almost afraid to be there. It broke my heart to see him looking like that, after everything he would have gone through the day before with Jess and me.

I didn’t say anything to him as I walked straight over to the bed and then through myself at him, wrapping my arms and legs around him forcing Ross to fall back on the bed with a grunt.

“I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry about every thing I should have never said that to you I love you I’m sorry” I cried against Ross’ cheek, holding onto him tight.

“It’s alright babe, I understand. These last weeks have been hard for both of us but we cant let it continue to torment us.”

I lifted my head and looked down as Ross’ beautiful sad face.

“You’re right and I’m sorry, it’s just been so hard to accept that Jess is gone.”

“I know baby but I think we should do something to honour Jess’ memory.”

“I starred at him confused and asked, “What.”

“Let’s get married straight away. We will register today and in four weeks time let’s get married. For Jess.”

The tears began to fall in floods now and Ross held me close to him and said, “It’s going to get better Nathan, I promise.

When I was finally able to control myself I looked back at Ross and said, “Yes let’s do it for Jess.”

Ross smiled then and said, “I love you.”

“I love you too.” I told him and my heart told me I was lucky to have Ross by my side because I knew I would never have been strong enough to get through this is it was not for him.
