One day, the Marauders find the Mirror of Erised.

James sees himself not holding the Quidditch Cup, he doesn't see a crown on his head. He doesn't see himself getting praise from everyone he knows. All he sees is himself and Lily Evans, holding hands, utterly in love

Sirius sees his family accepting him for who he is, he sees his family giving him the unconditional love that families should always give each other. He also sees himself with Remus, and they're holding hands. James and Peter are there too. He sees his friends and family, all together, all proud of him.

Remus sees himself, werewolf-free. He sees everyone in his life, and none of them are afraid of him. He sees his closest friends too, and they're altogether and happy, only Remus isn't werewolf, and no one treats him differently. Sirius and him are holding hands.

Peter sees himself surrounded by his three closest friends, and they're giving him praise. He's the most beloved boy in their group, and the most beloved boy by all his teachers and peers. He's not "that one short kid that hangs with the Marauders," he's "that cool short kid in the Marauders."
