A/n: And just like that, ladies and gentlemen, we are so back on track! Chapter eight is a bit dicey but give it a chance and enjoy it. Also this week Check Mate made it to #1 in Ghanaian and I couldn't be more proud and happy. Thank you guys so much, it means a truckload to me. Enjoy.
"Oh my God. This is so good." Olivia said in between spoonfuls of rice with chicken stew.
Mr. Asare laughed. He was happy that his daughter was so happy and healthy and the dark days of her feeding through tubes was long behind them.
"You are such a pig." Joey commented taking a picture of her with his phone.
"Dead!" Fred laughed, then noticing a stern look from his mother added. "God forbid, I am alive and well in Jesus name."
"Hey!" Olivia said, covering her face with her hands as Joey aimed his camera at her, then she turned to her mother and said, "I am so sad Jackie and grandma couldn't come."
Philomena Asare nodded. She was glad that her witch of a mother-in-law had not come near her daughter. In fact, she had ensured that the old lady had been left to take care of little Jackie who did not like to travel especially if the distance was a far one. Philomena was not so concerned about Jackie being near the old lady. For Jackie was a just a child and whatever hex that was cast upon her now, could be reversed in the near future. Mr. Asare shot his wife a look and Mrs. Asare looked away. He didn't have to say it out right but he knew that his wife was onto his mother and he did not like it one bit.
"Olivia hey!"
Olivia put down her spoon and frowned. True to her word, Ella Mae had come to her family.
If Mohammed didn't move to the mountain, the mountain would indeed come to Mohammed.
Olivia's eyes widened and her brows furrowed in confusion and slight annoyance. "Hiii, Ella."
"Hi!" Ella responded enthusiastically.
An awkward silence ensued as Olivia tried to make Ella get the hint and move on. She did not get the hint so she still stood there.
"You are in Livie's class eh?" Mrs. Asare stared at her, she was already judging her in her head.
Olivia could tell. Her lips were pursed in a straight line. That was Philomena's I-am-judging-you face.
"Yes." Ella replied, her eyes still glued to Fred who was nonchalantly playing with his phone like he had never received female attention before.
He usually would have flirted with her but never in front of his mother. Anybody who led a woman on had fornicated with her according to Mrs. Asare and she would be damned if any of her children went to hell for a sexually related sin.
Ella still stood staring. It was getting really awkward and Fred shifted uncomfortably under her hopeful gaze. Even though they were twins, Fred always got most of the attention. Whereas Joey had boyish looks with a slender frame, Fred was the opposite. They looked very much alike but Fred was growing a beard and had a more built frame. Ella was obviously gunning for the more-built one.
"Guys this is Ella Mae, she is in my dorm and my class too." Olivia said quickly.
There was a series of non-enthused nods from her family and Ella took it as her cue to smile and walk away. Immediately she was out of ear shot, Mrs. Asare turned to her daughter and grabbed both of her hands in hers. Her lower lip pouted and Olivia knew she was about to talk about something spirit related.
