I couldn't sleep, no matter how hard I tried. I had a twisty feeling in my stomach, almost like I felt guilty about something. It had been another week since I'd called my dad, and still I hadn't heard anything from him.

Since then, I'd gotten to know everyone in the pack a little better, especially Will. I knew all these stupid facts about him, like how his favorite song was 'Iris' by the Goo Goo Dolls, because it was his parents first dance at their wedding and how he could only eat orange flavored jello, because all the others tasted like plastic to him. I'd started to let him in, bit by bit, gradually telling him more about myself. We'd gotten closer, and my plan to weaken the mate bond had failed miserably.

I still wanted my Dad to come find me, but I didn't want him hurting anybody. Finn and I had become close too, much to Will's annoyance, bonding over our shared pain of being taken from our parents. He'd become a surrogate brother to me, and now the thought of him in danger made my chest hurt. I needed to come up with some sort of arrangement between the werewolves and my family, an agreement or something so that I got to live with my parents, but still see Will, and make my dad stop killing their kind.

But I knew it wasn't going to be that easy. Will wasn't going to let me go and my dad wasn't either.

I looked over at Will, asleep on the floor, curled up in a blanket and snoring loudly. He looked quite peaceful when he slept. All the worry and angst fell from his face making him look almost younger. I rolled over and closed my eyes, desperately trying to fall asleep, but it was no use. And I knew why. I wanted Will. I needed him by me; my whole body was on edge because he wasn't next to me, holding me in his arms. I huffed at how pathetic it was, before sitting up.

"Will? Will!?" I whispered, trying to wake him. But it was no use, he was deeply asleep. I picked up one of the pillows beside me and threw it at him. It smacked him right in the face, causing him to sit up abruptly and look straight at me.

"Ow!?" he moaned, looking at me for an explanation.

"I can't sleep." I stated.

"Okay..." he answered, not understanding what I wanted him to do.

"Can you just...please." I replied, moving my eyes between the bed and him. He stood up slowly, making his way over to me and getting under the covers. I laid down next to him, but still couldn't fall asleep. Then he pulled me into his chest and wrapped his arms around me. I breathed in the smell of his shirt. His fingers ran themselves gently through my hair, but still I couldn't sleep. Something was still bothering me.

"Will, why did I bleed when you got shot?" I asked, still unsure as to how that happened.

"It's the link we have. All mates lives are tethered together, so if one gets injured, so does the other." he replied.

"So if one dies..?" I responded.

"Yeah... so would the other. That's why the werewolves are so set on finding and turning their mates from birth. For protection. All packs make enemies, and if a mate is found by one of these enemies before it's found by the pack, well... it would be the perfect bargaining chip." he replied.

"That's awful." I stated. I wondered if my father knew about this? If he did, it certainly meant Will's life was no longer at risk. As for the rest of the pack... my dad had an anger inside him like no other. His temper was not something you wanted to be on the receiving end of, and I knew for sure that if I couldn't make him see sense, he would kill all of them.

"Will, I need to tell you something..." I said, but Will was asleep again, his snoring filling the room. I pulled him closer to me, listening to his heart beat as my head lay on his chest and slowly I felt my eyes close.
