"What?" I said. A mate to an Alpha? What even was that?
"You know the birthmark you have, right on your collar bone?" my mother replied, having finally stopped crying again. I brought my hand up to it and traced it with my fingers.
"It's shaped like a crescent moon for a reason." my father continued, having sat down in the chair by my window. He was staring out at the forest intently.
"Baby, it's the mark of the crescent moon pack. It's a mark only the mate of their alpha would possess." my mother said, removing my hand from my collar bone. "The alpha also has one, it binds you two together."
"It's why you are bleeding." my father added, still staring out of the window.
I looked down at my leg, still dripping with blood. My mother reached down beside her and produced another bandage, gently wrapping it around my leg to soak up the blood and stop it falling into my bed.
"When the alpha got shot, it was with a silver bullet, so the healing will take a little longer. The bleeding won't stop until his does too unfortunately." she said, expecting that to explain to me why I was bleeding from a gunshot wound even though I hadn't been shot.
My father stood up from the chair abruptly, looking out of the window, fear swimming in his eyes. "Sweetie, I know this must be very overwhelming for you, but we have to go. Now." I looked to my father in confusion, as did my mother, but once she took one look at my father's face, she knew why we had to leave. I on the other hand, was still completely in the dark.
"Dad what's happening?" I asked, panicked by his expression.
"You should have never gone into the woods that night Layla. They've found you." he replied.
My dad scooped me up from the bed whilst my mother went across the hall and into the spare bedroom. She reappeared holding a black rucksack and my father's shotgun, handing the ruck sack over to him before heading downstairs.
My father followed behind her, cradling me in his arms, and heading through the kitchen towards the back door. From nowhere, a man appeared in front of us, kicking my father in the shins and causing him to fall to his knees. I rolled out of his arms, before I was lifted over the shoulder of another man and carried out of the kitchen. "Let go of me you bastard!" I screamed, kicking and punching, but it was no use, the man had a tight grip on me and there was nothing I could do to make him let go. I lifted my head to see my dad being dragged from the kitchen, unconscious, into the back garden, where my mother was being pinned to the floor by another man. I screamed for them, but it was too late, as I was thrown into the back of a car and sped away from my home. Suddenly, a cloth was placed over my face and a pungent smell filled me nose. Chloroform. I tired not to breath it in, but I couldn't hold my breath for long enough, eventually taking in a deep breath and passing out.

I woke up in a room I didn't recognize, entangled in the sheets of someone's bed. I sat up straight and looked around me. The room had pale blue walls and was filled with dark mahogany furniture, but there were no photos or any personal items anywhere. It was as if no one slept there. I swung my legs off the bed and noticed my leg was no longer bleeding and my bandage had been removed. I lifted up my shirt to see that the wound on my rib cage had been stitched and properly dressed. What the hell? I walked over to the nearest window, peering out of it to see if I recognized where I was. I didn't. The house was completely surrounded by forest, every inch of the place hidden by the trees. I looked down to see how high up I was, contemplating trying to escape, but I was at least three floors up and the jump would have killed me. I walked over to the doors opposite the bed and slowly opened them. I was faced with a long hallway, and a flight of stairs just to my right. I descended down them quietly, hoping not to draw any attention to myself and find a way out. As I reached the bottom, I started to hear whispering, like two people were trying to quietly argue. I could make out two voices; a male and a female's, and they were really going at each other.
