I laughed as Ponyboy threw me the football. He made a goofy pose before he threw it, and when he threw it, he fell to the ground.

"You're so clumsy!" I exclaimed as I caught the ball. Pony looked up at me and glared playfully.
"No I'm not!" He shouted as he picked himself up off the ground "You're a liar!"

I laughed and threw the ball back at him. Right now it was just me and Pony, playing football with each other. Well, when I say football, I mean we're just throwing the ball back and forth since we don't have enough people with us to actually play the game, but that didn't bother me, I love spending some alone time with Pony.

Pony threw the ball back at me, but miss threw it and it ended up landing right beside me. "Good throw pony." I said sarcastically as I picked it up. He just rolled his eyes and laughed.

"Better watch what you say, Johnnycake!" He warned. I stuck my tounge out at him as I threw the ball. He laughed and caught it. "I'm serious!"

"What's a greaser like you gonna do?" I sneered, trying to sound like a Soc. He glared at me playfully and dropped the ball. "You were warned!" He shouted as he charged after me.

I ran away from him, laughter emitting from my body as I did so. I had barely made it 1 block before he tackled me to the ground. I looked up at him innocently and smiled. "Hiya Ponyboy!"

He rolled his eyes and smiled, "You're too cute, Johnny." I stopped smiling and just stared at him. Did he just call me...cute? Pony's own smile faded away and his playful look was replaced with one full of worry. "I-I-I didn't mean it like that, Johnnycake! I-I....sorry?"

I just shook my head and smiled, "Don't sweat it, Pone! There's nothing wrong with a small little complement!" He sighed in relief and grinned.

"Thank god! I was scared that you'd think I was...a fag or something!" That's when everything stopped. My face instantly fell and my stomach did a flip, but not in a good way. That's not what I was hoping he'd say.

I was about to ask him what he meant by 'fag' when all of a sudden he started screaming my name. I looked at him in confusion. "Why are you screaming?"

"Johnny, wake up!"

*******

I blinked open my eyes and sighed, It was just another dream. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and looked up at whoever woke me up. Ponyboy stood over me, worry lacing his features as he shook me one more time.

"I'm awake Pony, so you can stop shaking me!" Ponyboy stopped shaking me and sighed in what I think was annoyance.

"Do you have any idea how cold it is?!" He exclaimed "What are you doing out here?"

I looked at him and was about to make a smart comment until I saw the worry in his eyes. "Aw shucks, Pony, I'm sorry." I said sincerely "I was kicked out of my house again and I didn't want to bother any one of y'all, so I stayed out here."

He sighed and gave me a warm hearted smile. "Johnny...you're not a bother, and you know it. We keep our door unlocked all the time for a reason! Next time, just come over to our house." By our house, he meant him and his brothers house. Their parents died around 11 months ago in a nasty car accident, so now it's just them. I feel bad for Pony, his parents were really nice to them, to all of us, in fact. I wish my parents were like his...

I shook my head clear of thoughts and grinned up at Pony. "I promise I'll come over there next time." I said, causing Ponyboy to nod in agreement.

"Good."

I slowly pulled myself up from off the ground and sat beside Ponyboy. Pony looked over at me and gave me a small smile before looking up at the sky, which was still full of a million glittering stars. The way his face looked under the moon light made my stomach flutter. He looked so...innocent sitting there, just staring up at the sky. It made me think of all the stuff he's been through lately that no 14 year old should ever have to go through. But, then again, no one should ever have to be a greaser, yet here we are...

"Do you ever wonder if my ma and pa are actually up there in the sky, watching over all of us?" He asked, his voice sounding kid like. I shrugged and stared up at the sky with him.

"Maybe."

He sighed and shook his head. "I miss them Johnny, I miss them a lot." He said, his voice cracking as if he was about to cry.

I wrapped my arm around him comfortingly and pulled him close. "We all miss them, Pony, they were like our own parents with the way they treated us." Pony laughed slightly and smiled.

"Yeah. They sure did like all of y'all, especially you, Johnnycake." I blushed and grinned sheepishly, which caused Pony to chuckle. "You know Johnny, you blush a lot for a guy."

I immediately went into panic mode and tried to explain myself. "I-I-I um uh-"

"It's cute." He said, cutting me off. My face turned a brighter red and my heart skipped a beat. Did he just call me...cute? "Not in that way, of course." My heart dropped at that statement. "Oh...of course not in that way, that'd mean he's be a fag, and fags aren't aloud where I'm from!" I thought bitterly

"Oh...ok." I simply said, brushing away that thought. Pony looked over at me with confusion before sighing and looking back up at the stars. "We should go, Johnny, I'm not even supposed to be out right now, and if Darry finds out I'm out this late, I'll be skinned alive for sure!"

Ponyboy jumped up and stuck his hand out. I looked up at him and hesitantly grabbed it. A blush seeped across mine and Pony's face as he lifted me up off the ground. He quickly turned around and walked on ahead, not waiting for me. I stared at him in confusion. Why was Ponyboy blushing? I shrugged my shoulders and followed suit. That boy is like a mystery sometimes...
