(Mia)

"Hey pretty girl!" I heard Kylie say from behind me as I was walking into the school from the parking lot. She was looking exceptionally pretty today. She was wearing a light peach sleeveless button-down tucked into black jeans. Her curly hair was let down and she'd put on a pretty peach coloured hairband with a bow on it. She'd put on very light make-up, which heightened her features.

I gave her a broad smile. Kylie and I had become really good friends in the one week that I'd been here. We both had very similar tastes and likes and dislikes.

"Hey gorgeous!" I said reciprocating her excitement.

"Listen, before I forget. We have our school's founder's day next month. And it's going to be huge this time because it's the 25th founder's day. So, we are going to have kind of a fair this year. And we'll be needing to start off right away. And since you're a part of this school now, I was wondering if you would want to volunteer?" Kylie asked.

"I would love to!" I replied beaming. Every year during easter, we used to have fairs in my old town. And my entire family always volunteered. Well, except Leo. He was too little to do that. So, just the mention of a fair made my heart escalate in excitement.

"Brilliant! We have a meeting about it after school in the cafeteria. This is going to be spectacular!" She said happily.

And with that we went into our first class room.

"Welcome to the tennis club Mia!" Ariana chirped happily when I walked into the tennis court of the school. She was wearing a pale yellow tennis skirt with a white tank. She had a tom-boyish personality but was extremely girly in her looks. She was a great person, and I saw how Kylie and her were best friends. They had matching personalities and had a really good bond.

"Thank you! I'm so excited!" I replied.

"Mia, this is Coach Watson, Coach Watson, this is Mia." Ariana introduced us. Coach Watson was a tall and muscly man, with deep-set brown eyes and ebony skin.

I put my hand forward to shake his hand but he just said, "Use those hands to show me how good you are with that tennis bat." And just walked off. I was a little taken aback to say the least. "Ariana! Show her how it's done."

I looked from Ariana to Coach Watson, and back to Ariana again. I was too shocked for words.

"Can I at least change into my tennis clothes?" I asked softly.

"Urrgghhh..... Fine." He said grunting.

I quickly went into the changing rooms and changed into my grey tennis skirt and black tank top. This was the first time I was encountering someone hostile in this town.

I went back to the court and saw that Ariana was doing her stretches and warming up.

I did my warm up routine too and then we were both ready. I had never seen Ariana play, so I had no idea about her style. Moreover, I was more of a clay court player and this was a grass court. So basically, everything played at my disadvantage here. But tennis is the only game that I was passionate about. In fact I was hoping to get a tennis scholarship for my college entrees.
