Chapter song: Anytime by Alex James

"How many reasons should I give you...How many touches can you feel...How many times can you look me in the eye...Until you know that you're mine, til you know that this is real?"

My arms trembled as I desperately held onto Henry.

He kept one hand on the back of my head while the other wrapped around me, pulling me deeper into him. He was so warm, so safe. For the moment.

"Did you have a bad dream?" he asked gently.

I nodded the littlest of nods while still in his arms.

"What was it?"

"My mom...she was leaving my family...I couldn't do anything..."

Henry loosened his grip and a whimper inadvertently fell from my lips, unprepared to let him go.  Very gently, he lifted my chin with a finger, bringing my eyes to meet his.

"Everything's okay now," he whispered. "I'm right here, okay?"

"Okay," I whispered and nodded.

We stared into each other's eyes for a moment before Henry pulled me back into his arms, and I let him.

.....

As I came around, I felt an unusual, though light, weight over my hip.  I looked down and smiled when I saw Henry's arm laying across my hardly noticeable bulging stomach.  Tentatively, I turned around to meet his front.  Proud that I didn't wake him, I raised my hand to his cheek, but the moment he made a slight movement, I hesitated.

Instead, I slowly lifted his arm off me and climbed off the bed.

After changing my clothes, I went downstairs to the kitchen.  Eve and Mrs. Sylvester were already up as usual, making some noises in the kitchen.

"Do you think it will be boy or a girl?" I overheard Mrs. Sylvester asked Eve.  I suddenly stopped at the last step of the stairs, intrigued by the conversation.

"I don't know, but I have a feeling it might be a girl. It'd be so cute to see a little Ally running around," Eve said.

"Those two are going to be great parents, I just know it," Mrs. Sylvester said.

I frowned.  Though their words were sweet and uplifting, I couldn't help but be filled with doubts.  Would we make great parents?

I quietly escaped to the backyard.  A vast garden filled with vegetables took up half the yard along with a blooming field of colorful flowers. There were roses, daisies, daffodils, gladiolas.  It reminded me of Nancy's shop. I used to be around flowers all the time. I used to love it so much. I had forgotten just how much I did.

I noticed a garden hose nearby and turned on the water to start watering the flowers. It felt a little familiar since I used to do this at the shop until closed down. Nancy would love it here.

"Are you feeling better today?" a voice appeared from behind me.

I turned around to find Henry approaching.  He wore a light grey flannel with a pair of jeans that was probably tailored to his height.

"A little," I said, turning my attention back on the plants. "Thank you," I added quickly.

"Anytime." He smiled. "Let me help you."

"No, I got it. I'm almost done."

"You missed a spot over there," he pointed out, somewhat arrogantly I must add.

"You don't think I know that?"

"I'm just saying."

"What? You don't think I can handle this?"
