CHAPTER X: MEMORIES

(Jack's P.O.V)

We decided to take a little rest back at the old mansion and just wait 'til tomorrow to get to our next destination.

I was just sitting at the mansion's living room when Jake came in the room. "Hey." I greeted him.

"Hey, you're up early." he said.

I just nodded then glanced at him, he was reading an old book.

I was about to speak but he spoke first, "Hey, Jack?"

I pursed my lips, "Yeah?"

"I heard you couldn't remember who you were after you became immortal." he said.

"That's right. The Tooth Fairy and the other guardians just helped me out." I said.

"Okay but I have one question." his voice sounded a bit serious.

"What is it?" I asked.

"You really didn't see me in your memory?" he asked, he sounded hurt.

Come to think of it, I'm asking that same question since I met him. Why can't I remember Jake? I bit my lower lip.

"I... I don't know..." I answered stiffly.

"I see," he said with a frown.

"You know, I kept asking myself the same question ever since I first saw you. I'm still finding the answer." I answered.

He sighed, "I'm sorry."

I looked at him, "Jake, I didn't mean to offend you or anything."

He grinned, "That's okay."

"But did you remember me?" I asked.

"Of course, I remembered how you died. Our sister, Flee came running to me, telling me that you fell when the ice cracked when you tried to save her." he said looking down. I couldn't move in shock and wanted to hear more.

"I tried to save you but I couldn't find your body." he sighed, "I'm sorry."

"Hey, you don't have to apologize. It's no big deal." I smiled.

He bit his lower lip, "But it is. I couldn't save you from death."

I patted his shoulder, "C'mon, that's all in the past now."

"You're right, it's just a bad memory." he said with a sly smile.

"Yeah," I sat beside him. Why didn't I see him there in my memory? Did someone erase him there or something? And how did he because immortal?

"So where do– Jack?"

"Jake?"

"Um... Yes?"

"How did you because the Guardian of Fire?" I asked, I really had to know.

"Well, I was chosen by the Man in the Moon like you." he answered.

"No, I mean, what was your story?"

He sighed, "Well, it was just like yours. I also saved Flee also our mom from death." he said.

"How?"

(Jake's Flashback)

Summer came to our village and the sunshine grew hotter. It had been months since my brother, Jack's death. We never found his body so we weren't sure if he really was dead.

"Jake, are you awake?" asked my little sister, Flee from behind the closed door.

I opened it, "Yeah, I've been up for hours." I smiled.
