Chapter Thirteen

"How are you, baby?" Emmie said, her smile slightly pixelized by the computer screen. Even though her face wasn't clear, I still felt relief being able to see her.

"I'm good, Emmie. I really miss you. I miss the comfort of your arms."

Three weeks without being embraced by Emmie was tough. She was like my mom, and I didn't know how much longer I could take wishing she was here.

She smiled. Within a few seconds though, her smile turned into a smirk.

"Well, I mean," she began mischievously, "you do have Logan's arms."

I narrowed my eyes at her. "Ha-ha. Hilarious."

"I am aren't I?" She said, grinning. "So how are things going with that plan you were telling me about?"

I smiled. "Things are going.. surprisingly well. The first step was to get a job as a waitress. You know, to get me used to interacting with people I don't know. The second step was, or is, making new friends. Logan took me to meet his friends, and I actually liked them."

Emmie smiled gratefully. "I'm already starting to like him."

I smiled softly. Logan wasn't like other guys. As cliche as it sounded, he was.. different. He had something that intrigued me, that made me feel understood, and I was lucky that he was starting to become my friend.

"Yeah." I said, biting down on the corner of my lip in thought. "He is."

My phone suddenly vibrated then, bringing me out of my thoughts, and notifying me of a text message. I reached over and grabbed it from my bed.

"Who is it?"

I glanced up and peered at her threw my eyelashes cautiously. "Logan."

He had given me his number after we finished eating with his friends when he dropped me off at my house, and in exchange, I gave him mine.

I opened the text wondering what he wanted.

Hey, Lauren! I was thinking about the plan and how I'm teaching you to make friends, and I realized that I don't even know your favorite color. So, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out today? -Logan

"What did he say?"

"He wants to hang out.. Should I say yes?" I looked up from my phone anxiously and saw the look she was giving me, the one she used as if to say are you serious?

"Yes!" She exclaimed, clearly forgetting I was right there and she didn't need to burst my eardrums, thank you very much.

"Alright, alright!" I said with a chuckle. I turned my attention back to my phone and typed a reply.

Yeah, that'd be fun. Where should we go? -Lauren

I hit send and no longer than five seconds later, he replied.

It's a surprise ;) just get ready, I'll pick you up in an hour. -Logan

"Well?"

"He's going to pick me up in an hour, but I don't know where he's taking me. He said it was a surprise." I answered.

"Alright, well I guess that's my cue to leave. I hope you have fun on your date!" She winked.
