"...he sees a smoking gun
and the coward he ran,
and in his arms is the
bleeding love of his life..."

He remembers the day perfectly. It was the middle of summer, 83 degrees out and no clouds for miles. Annie was happy, she was always wearing a smile on her face though, and that's one of the many things he adored about her.

They were in San Fransisco for the day, he wanted to take her on a romantic date but LA had too many people. In one hand, Annie's smaller one and their fingers laced up, in the other hand, a basket full of her favorites.

Their laced up hands were swinging as they walked. Annie was a step ahead of him, but he didn't mind, he loved admiring her. He loved watching her and the way she looked at everything with such love in her eyes. She always had a sparkle in her eye, a sparkle you couldn't miss. And she was always wearing a smile, since the day he met her she had been one of the strongest people he knew. She was tiny, about 4'9, and very light. She hated her height but he adored it. He loved bending down to kiss her and hug her. He loved the way she would stand on his toes while they hugged. He loved everything about her.

In a small park, he opened up the basket and took out the blanket, spreading it on the ground neatly. He let her sit down before he did, and he wrapped one arm around their waist and put his head on top of hers, a small smile across his face. After a few minutes, he asked,

"Do you want food now?"

"Yes please" she said in her cute, quiet voice. He opened up the basket again and grabbed food. A salad for them to split and a turkey sandwich with some fruit on the side. Annie loved eating healthy, so that's exactly what he brought for her. He handed her her sandwich and put the salad in front of them, putting his sandwich in his lap. And he gave both of them plates and forks so they could actually eat the salad.

"You look so beautiful" he whispered to Annie, gently kissing her cheek. He grinned when a small blush spread across her face.

"Babyyy" she whined, a small pout on her face. He chuckled softly and shook his head, taking a bite out of his sandwich.

A little bit later, they were done with the food and he packed everything back up into the basket. Annie grabbed his hand and laced their fingers up, making him grin and kiss her hand.

"What do you wanna do, beautiful?" He asked, looking down at her.

"Can we just walk around?" She said in a small voice, looking up at him slightly. He chuckled,

"Sure, baby. Anything you want to do, I told you already that it's your day" he murmured softly. She grinned and nodded, still walking one step ahead of him. For a girl with such short legs, she could walk fast when she was really excited.. which was most of the time.

He watched her from behind and remained holding her hand. He watched her smile at people, which she said she did because "a smile never hurt anyone". He watched her eyes sparkle and how they told her emotions - happy, excited and love. Love, how he loved her. He loved her short brown hair that she had recently just cut a lot off of, and he loved how her brown eyes weren't a normal brown.. they were unique just as she was.

Growing up and to that day, he never really believed in bad timing. That day changed that.

They had just walked for about 10 minutes and Annie was still walking in front of him, still holding his hand. They were at a nice little public stop, it wasn't much of a "park" but that's what it was called. It was small yet beautiful and lovely, much like his girlfriend.

And in one second, the one second he turned his head to look at some people passing, everything went wrong. Because when he was looking at his girlfriend, a man had a gun pointed on her. But before he could even react, that terrible sound went off and Annie went down. He caught her before she hit the ground and he screamed for someone to call an ambulance - for someone to help. Many people ignored his pleads, others were crowding around. He looked down at Annie, the bleeding love of his life. He put his hand on the wound, putting pressure on it.

"...and she cried,
"kiss it all better,
I'm not ready to go.
It's not your fault, love,
you didn't know,
you didn't know..."

In those moments he held his bleeding and shot girlfriend, time seemed to be frozen. The ambulance that someone had called seemed to have taken forever. Nothing felt real, more like a nightmare, and he hoped that's what this was and he'd be waking any moment now.

"Annie, lovely, stay with me" he said as tears streamed down his face. He never cried around Annie.. Ever. "Oh my god baby, I'm so sorry" he said, still putting pressure on the bullet wound.

"I'm not ready to go yet, Eth" she cried out. Hearing the pain in her voice nearly broke his heart into two.

"I know baby, you gotta stay awake" he said. He cried, kissing her forehead and putting pressure on her wound. "I'm so sorry baby" he kept repeating.

"It's not your fault, love, you didn't know" and little did he know, those were the last words he would ever hear her say.

[AN: I know this wouldn't happen, it's just for the story. To clear things up; Annie was getting robbed. The guy came out of no where and had a gun on her, when she didn't give him her wallet quick enough, he shot her and then took off. Ethan got a quick glance at him. Annie died before the ambulance even arrived. Alright, comment if you like this or not! Hope you enjoy!]
