"...her hands are so cold
and he kisses her face
and says, everything will
be alright..."

It was the day of her funeral and he stood in all black. The bags under his eyes seemed to match the purple in his hair. It was only a couple days after, but he had barely slept. He cried and cried so much he seemed to be out of tears. Some of Annie's things were still in his room which hurt him more but at the same time, it was sort of comforting. He would lay in bed, clinging to one of her sweaters that still smelt like her. Flowers; she always smelt like them.

Constant flashbacks of Annie dying in his arms went through his mind. He couldn't escape it which was another reason he couldn't sleep. But the main was that life wasn't the same without her. There was no reason to smile, nothing to do during the day, no Annie to admire and love; it was tough.

He stood in line behind her parents and siblings. People would do what you do at a funeral, stand in front of her coffin and say a prayer then come up to the close people of Annie, hug them and say 'sorry for your loss'. Standing in this line was almost as painful as the flashbacks.

Soon enough, it was his turn to talk. He stood up, his cheeks stained pink and his eyes puffy from crying. He walked up to the podium which was sitting next to Annie's coffin. He took a deep breathe and looked down at what he had wrote. A sharp pain immediately going through his heart as he began speaking.

"Annie was always the happiest person I knew, she wore a smile almost every minute of everyday. She was the type of person to do anything for you, the one who you could count on and have no doubt about it. She was an amazing friend, daughter, sister and girlfriend. She never failed to make me happy and laugh, and I'm sure everyone here can agree" he said, pausing for a moment, "and because of some terrible human, we all are no longer surrounded by this amazing person. But I know she's still with us, watching us, comforting us.." He said, tears brimming his eyes, "she'll always be with us even if it's not the way we want. We will always have the memories of her. We'll always know how happy she was and let's remember her by that, a happy, beautiful girl who got taken away too soon. Let's not think about her last moments because I know she wouldn't want that. She would tell us all it's okay, that she's okay and that she loves us. Each and everyone of you she loved, don't forget that" he finished, wiping a tear quickly as he walked back to his seat.

The rest of the funeral, he didn't pay attention; instead he just was thinking. The flashbacks of Annie dying stuck in his mind and he ran a hand through his hair. When his mother tapped his shoulder and said,

"Ethan, it's over, let's go sweetie" he jumped lightly. He looked at his mom and nodded,

"I'll be right out, I'll meet you at the car" he said as his voice cracked. His mother nodded, walking outside and he stood up, going to Annie's coffin. He stood next to it and grabbed her cold hand, tears immediately brimming his eyes again.

"You didn't deserve this, precious. You should still be here" he said softly, his voice cracking. He kissed her forehead,

"I know what you would say right now, 'everything will be alright' and I'm trying to remember that but it's hard. It's only been two days without you and I already feel like dying. You were my world Annie and now you're dead, my whole world is dead" he said and that's when he broke down. Tears started falling yet he remained holding her hand.

"I miss you, beautiful" he said between crying. Feeling a hand on his shoulder, he jumped lightly and turned around to see Grayson.

"Ethan, come on" Grayson said, patting his brothers back.

"It hurts Gray" he admitted, looking at his twin, still crying.

"I know, I know. Let's talk about this at home" Gray said, hugging his brother before walking out to their moms car with him.

The car ride home was silent, tears silently streamed down Ethan's face and Grayson would occasionally pat his shoulder. No one knew how to comfort Ethan, they knew how much he cared for Annie. Ethan didn't even know how to stop crying. All he knew was that nothing was okay, his universe was gone and he was here. It shouldn't have happened, it was supposed to be a good day. He planned on giving Annie a necklace she had been looking at for weeks now. His hand in his pocket, he twisted that exact necklace around, which made another sharp pain go through his heart. None of this was fair, not at all.
