Chapter Eight

When I arrive at my hotel, I immediately jump in the shower, letting the warm water run down my back. Remembering the long shower I took yesterday, I take a quicker one today, washing my hair and body quickly. I change into an old long-sleeved t-shirt and jeans, and quickly dry my hair before pulling on a red beanie. As I pack up my things, I try not to let thoughts of Kelsey creep into my mind.

Not possible.

Images of her swaying hips and hypnotic dance moves flood into my mind, making me blush. The way her purple hair flew behind her as she twirled, the feeling of her body pressed tightly against mine. The way our bodies moved together as if it were meant to be. The way her voice blends with her guitar. The way her she curled up closer to me this morning.

The way she trusted me without really knowing me.

I shook my head to clear my thoughts. I packed up my things and called Max, my body guard, to come pick me up. Sighing, I put all my bags by the door and lay down on the bed, waiting for Max. My phone buzzes, telling me Max is outside waiting for me. Picking up all my bags and one of the pillows, I walk outside and get in the limousine. I stare blankly out the window and watch as cars pass by in a blur. The plane ride was the same way. Just me, looking out the window at the city lights slowly fading. I let my thoughts wander I'm no particular direction, and I feel myself slip into sleep.

"It's a no from me, I'm so sorry." I say to the girl in front of me. All four judges say no, and the girl walks away, tears slipping from her eyes. I shake my head to clear my thoughts. She was alright, but not good enough to make it through. I need someone fantastic to take my mind off of Kelsey.

Sadly, that person doesn't come.

Don't get me wrong, I've heard plenty of great singers who definitely deserve to be in the competition. A few stood out, but no one was able to clear my thoughts of Kelsey. I smile at the thought of her. Her laugh is contagious, her smile glows. I'm so happy to call her mine.

Mine.

Today's the day. After months of auditions, after a long day of narrowing down the Top 40, we finally find out who our category is.

Girls. Boys. Over 25's. Groups.

Kelsey is in the girls category. I want the girls so bad it hurts. To be able to work with Kelsey, to help her improve and to help her shine, would be incredible. I smile at the thought of her singing with me, singing to me.

After the hard part of selecting the Top 40, we have to walk to certain curtain to find our team. Once I'm directed to a curtain, I shake out my nerves. This will go on television. I can't look nervous, I have to look excited. I walk briskly down the isle, pausing right before the entrance. I hear the voices of girls whispering excitedly to each other in anticipation. I smile immediately; I have the girls.

I part the curtains explosively, grinning widely as it registers in everyone's minds that I'm their mentor. Squeals of excitement fill the room, and everyone rushes towards me.

"We have Demi!" The group of girls screams. I laugh, accepting everyone's hugs. Catching sight of Kelsey's large smile makes my heart flutter. I smile at her when she makes her towards me with Rion Paige. I hug both of them, glad they're already friends.

"I'm so excited to have this category. We're going to win this year." I say to everyone once they quiet down. Cheers erupt from them once again, and my smile widens. I see a camera man gesturing for me to come over to him. I keep my smile as I make my way over to him. He asks me a few questions about how excited I am, which I gladly answer. He dismisses me politely, calling over a few of the girls to interview.

I gather all the girls into a half circle in front of me. I give them all a pep talk, telling them we have some work to do. After I'm done, they all clap and cheer, and engulfing me in hugs again.

I leave with a smile on my face. I have the category I wanted more than anything. I'm so excited for the weeks ahead.

A/N:

I feel so bad, its been forever and day since I've posted anything. Ugh I suck, I know. But this has been sitting on my iPod for like ever, and I've finally gotten around to posting it. I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving (for all of you who aren't from the US, I hope you enjoyed another Thursday). I'm definitely thankful for all of you who are reading and voting and commenting. Last chapter got over 300 reads! I didn't expect to get more than like ten, so thanks for all of your support!

Today's song is Breathe Me by Sia. I love this song so much. Demi said this is one of the songs she listened to in rehab, so just knowing that makes listening to the song just a bit more special. Thanks for the reads!!
