Chapter Nine

Demi's Point of View

"Ooh, look at you with your blue hair," Kelsey drawls as I open the door to let her in. "Trippy. For your Neon Lights Tour, I'm guessing?" she continues as we sit together on the couch. I lean back against the arm of the couch, and Kelsey lays on top of me, her head resting on my chest. Our hands tangle together and rest on her stomach.

"You guessed right. I want this single to do really well. I have a great idea for the music video." I reply, tracing patterns on the back of her hand with my thumb. She closes her eyes and smiles.

"Tell me about it."

"Since Made in the USA didn't do as well as I'd hoped, I'm promoting the shit out of this single. Obviously my blue hair, naming my tour after it, performing and doing interviews, as much as I can. I want the music video to be really upbeat and exciting, obviously with lots of neon and color. If other artists can do that with their music videos, I can too, right?" I explain. Kelsey nods.

"Makes sense," Kelsey reasons, looking up at me. "I mean, Made in the USA was the cutest music video ever, but hardly played on the radio. Wrecking Ball right now has the VEVO record, but I think you can crush it with Neon Lights." Kelsey encourages, stretching up to kiss my cheek.

"Thanks Kel. I just really want this to song to do well." I admit.

"And it will, Demi." Kelsey says, looking me in the eyes. "I know it will. Just stop worrying about it." I smile gratefully down at her. I lean down and connect her lips with mine. I feel her hand reach up and cup my cheek, and I smile against her lips.

"I know what song I want to do one week, whenever it fits the theme." Kelsey says when we break the kiss, nestling her head in the crook of my neck.

"What?"

"Monster," Kelsey grins against my chest. I look down at her, surprised by her choice.

"Really? Are you sure?" I ask, skeptical. She nods.

"Its perfect! Its a song that means a lot to me, so I'll put more emotion into it. And I can play it on guitar." She justifies. I nod in agreement.

"Sounds like a good idea. And everyone loves it when you play the guitar." I say. And by that, I think to myself, I mean I love it when you play guitar. Kelsey smiles knowingly.

"Then lets do it!" I say, kissing her temple.

"Here's the amazing Kelsey Wright!" I announce, grinning as her pictures flash across the screen behind her as she fixes her hair. Since the voting for last night's performances went wrong, everyone had to come back a sing another song. Kelsey and I had the same though: Monster. I figured that there wouldn't be a theme that fit this song, so this is definitely meant to be.

Kelsey starts playing her guitar, her beautiful voice and her guitar the only sounds to be heard in the room. Everyone's eyes are trained on her, mesmerized. Just like I was. A fan blows her hair back, but that doesn't keep her bangs from falling over one eye. America will fall in love with her.

Just like I did.

I grin uncontrollably, as I do every time Kelsey sings this song. Our song. Memories of that day come flooding back, and I can tell the same is happening behind her eyes. A tears drips down her cheek, but her smile betrays it. I know this song is special to her, to us, and she's putting everything into it. I'm so proud of her.

When she finishes, the crowd stands on their feet, cheers and screams erupting from the stands. All of the judges follow suit, and Kelsey wipes tears off her cheeks. She meets my gaze and smiles.
