Chapter Twelve
**Kelsey**
It's the X Factor finale results night, and the Top 44 is back to congratulate whoever wins. I'm actually kind of nervous, and I'm not even in the Top 3.
I'm not really sure what's happening onstage right now, but I think they've just gone to a commercial break. The other contestants are getting ready too, all of them wearing white, just like me. Everyone is talking excitedly about who they think will win. The overwhelming thought is Alex and Sierra, although Rachel Potter is dead set on Jeff Gutt winning. I hope they win first and second. Even though Carlito and I kind of got along, I didn't like how different he was when the cameras were rolling. I hope I didn't act differently when cameras are rolling.
The makeup team is putting the finishing touches on my face when I hear the fast click of heels echoing in the dressing room. I try to look towards the door without turning my head, as to not mess up the makeup team. I can't turn enough to see who is rushing in.
"Kelsey!" I reluctantly turn my head towards the sound of my name being called. It's Kelly.
"You need to come with me. Right now," she says as she grabs my arm and pulls me down a long hallway.
"Kelly, the other contestants aren't supposed to know we're here," I remind her, but she continues dragging me backstage.
Kelly bursts out frantically, "It's Demi, okay?" Immediately my muscles tense at the thought of something happening to Demi.
'But,' I think to myself, 'how does Kelly know to come to me?'
"And before you say anything, I can tell y'all have something together, so don't ask me how I know," she says before I can say anything. "Did you see the montage they showed of Demi?"
I shake my head no. "I was getting ready and couldn't watch it."
"Well, I guess it hit Demi hard and she's pissed. While they were showing it, she just kept looking at me like she couldn't believe it was really happening. She even told me it was fucked up, but I don't know if they caught it on camera or not." Kelly sighs and walks a little faster.
"I don't really understand what was so bad, but when Mario asked for her thoughts, she said something about not drinking anymore. As soon as we were off air, she ran away backstage, her hand covering her mouth like she was about to cry."
I suck in a breath and look at Kelly in alarm. "Where is she now, is she okay? Oh my god, she isn't alone, is she?" I ask frantically.
Demi wouldn't risk swearing in TV if it weren't horrible. And drinking? I didn't know Demi used to drink.
"She's yelling at Simon backstage. And trust me, as much as I love Simon getting yelled at, I really don't like the way Demi looks right now. She's totally freaking out and shaking like crazy. You need to help her somehow. She wouldn't listen to me and she won't listen to Simon, I didn't know who else to go to."
Kelly finishes speaking as we open a door to see Demi and Simon facing each other. Demi's back is towards us and she doesn't see me. She's throwing her hands up in frustration as she speaks angrily to Simon. I wince as I hear her voice cutting like ice through the tension in the room.
"I just can't believe they would do that to me! That was so, horrible, Simon. Did you know about it? I should've had a warning, I should've been told this was going to happen. God, and I probably just swore on television!" She throws her hands up in the air again.
"Great. Not only did my performance suck, but I have zero acts in the finals for both seasons, and now I've gone and swore on TV. Great, people will definitely take me seriously now." She laughs cynically. Her normally witty sarcasm doesn't make me laugh today. Instead, I flinch visibly, wondering still why she hates her performance. Kelly puts her arm gently across my shoulders.
