"Welcome back, senator," General Organa smiled warmly, leading him towards the base.

"Thank you, General. It's nice to be back," Senator Kai replied, also smiling. "Actually, it's nice to be away from all the politics, to be honest." he chuckled, running a hand through his dark hair.

"My sincerest apologies, senator, but I have some things to attend to and must rush ahead. I trust you remember where everything is?"

"Yes ma'am," Kai responded.

"Good. Also, we have some new recruits, if you run into anyone you don't recognize," she winked, striding off. Kai smiled lightly, remaining stationary and taking a minute to enjoy the fresh air. He almost never got to see anything like this, if he ever got any free time to go outside even onto a balcony the air was stale and polluted and completely disgusting compared to this.

He finally decided to head inside to say hello to everyone, but instead of being his normal composed and proper self lost himself in his thoughts and ran straight into someone on his way through the door.

She stumbled and fell to the floor with a gasp, Kai taking a few steps back and apologising profusely.

He held his hand out to help her up, raising his eyebrows as she placed something cold and silver in his palm; a metal hand.

He shouldn't have been surprised, cyborgs weren't uncommon, it was just....unexpected. She was quite pretty, he recognized, with brown hair pulled back into a messy ponytail. A few strands fell around her face, where a little bit of her side swept bangs covered up a barely noticeable grease splotch on her forehead.

Her warm brown eyes widened when she realized who he was, and she snatched her hand away as if he had burned her, trying to hide it in her other hand as if it were shameful to have a metal limb.

"I am so sorry," Kai apologized again, making sure she was alright. "I wasn't paying attention, I was-"

"It's fine," she stopped him, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Are you one of the newbies?" he asked stupidly, of course she was. He hadn't seen her before, and he knew almost everyone here.

"Uh, yeah," she replied awkwardly. "Cinder. Linh Cinder. I'm just a mechanic, but Thorne's teaching me to fly. I probably would've learned by now if anyone else was teaching me, but...." she stopped herself, biting down on the inside of her cheek.

Kai smiled. "Cool. I've heard they could use some new pilots."

"Well....." Cinder said, trying to fill the awkward silence.

"It was nice, ah, running into you," Kai tried to joke, and trying even harder not to laugh at his own joke, giving her one last dazzling smile before walking off.
