Chapter 8

After a few more rounds of twister the clock read eleven twenty-two.  Getting up from the mat after our last round I stretched my arms, “Looks like it’s time to hit the hay.”

I went to the hall closet and got out four sleeping bags, all dark green or blue in color.  Walking back into the room I tossed them on the floor at everyone’s feet. Michael grabbed some gym shorts and another grey t-shirt and headed to the bathroom to change.

Ashley got out her blue shirt and black sweatpants, Courtney got out a purple shirt with blue sweatpants, while I had my red fuzzy pajama pants with rudolphs on them and a black tank top.

Courtney stopped and looked at my p.j pants, “Really? Rudolph pants?”

I shrugged, “I like them, and who are you to judge, Ms. Duck socks.”

Looking at her feet she wiggled her toes, making the fluffy ducks bounce, “So? They’re cool.”

“And that is exactly why I like my Rudolph pants.”

When we were done changing Michael came back from the bathroom. Upon coming in he stopped and looked at Courtney’s socks and then at my pajama pants.

I did the cool guy gun hand thing, “Everyone loves the Rudolph pants.”

He shook his head and put his clothes he changed out of in his duffle bag as Ashley came behind me and shoved me forward, causing me to fall on top of a sleeping bag.

I snapped and pointed a finger at her which made a quick shot of light hit her ankle and made her flinch. She protested, “Hey!” and then I felt a quick spaz of pain.

We stopped for a minute and then both started laughing. Courtney looked at Michael, “Sometimes I wonder why they’re the ones with the powers.”

He shrugged again, “Seems like it could be a fun use to me.”

Getting up I left the room and went to check on the boys. Peering into their room I saw they were both under their covers, fast asleep.

I quietly closed the door and went back to my bedroom.

Coming into the room I saw they had all already started unrolling their sleeping bags.  Ashley and Courtney were putting theirs next to each other while Michael set up his across from theirs. I put mine between his and Courtney’s so all our heads would be in a circle.

Courtney was the first to put her head down, “Goodnight everybody. Julia if you burn me while I’m sleeping so help me.”

I laughed, “I’ll never to that again, especially after last time! You hit me with my own jewelry box!”

Snuggling into my sleeping bag I put my head down on my pillow, letting it sink into the soft and fluffy material.

            I heard Ashley yawn, “Goodnight.”

            Courtney followed, “Night.”

I was the last, “Goodnight guys.”

I got onto my right side and curled up to get nice and comfortable.  My gaze went to Michael’s, his brown eyes shining in the dark.  He held my gaze for another second and said, “Goodnight.” With that he twisted over onto his right side, facing the opposite way of me.

Shifting in my sleeping bag I got deeper into it. I closed my eyes and it wasn’t soon that I drifted to sleep with the sound of everyone’s quiet breathing.
