Chapter 15
We all headed inside to the kitchen. I got us all a glass of water and we were standing around the black table top island. I was leaning on my elbows holding my almost empty glass in both hands.
Jenn took a big gulp of her water and set down her glass, “So now what can we do?”
Aaron suggested, “We could go back outside.”
I walked over to the window in the living room and looked outside seeing that the rain had picked up a little. Turning back to the kitchen I picked my glass back up, “Sorry guys, the rains starting up again. We’ll have to stay inside for now, probably the rest of the day, it’s almost evening.”
The kids gave disappointed sighs when Ashley got excited, “Oh! I know what we haven’t done in a while. What about truth or dare?”
A smile crept onto my face and the kids all gave a chorus, “Yeah!”
Looking around first I noted, “Where’s Michael?”
Everyone looked around but couldn’t find him. We were just about to figure he was already upstairs when he jumped out from the closet and scared Courtney. She spun around and kneed him, quite hard from noise of pain that Michael made.
He dropped to the floor and Courtney exclaimed, “How could you do that to me? You don’t need to scare me!”
Michael coughed, “Yeah I think I could have guessed that when you sent me down to the floor.”
I walked over and looked down at him, his face red from him holding his breath, “You okay?”
He grunted in pain again, “What does it look like? I get fricken kneed and you think I’m all hunky dory the next second.” After another pause he added, “Give me a minute.”
Courtney looked smug and crossed her arms and looked down at him, “Everyone knows not to scare me.”
He retorted, “Well I didn’t!”
She swung her foot back, “Want me to kick you again?”
He almost pleaded, “No no, I’m good, I’m good.
After a minute or two he was back up and Aaron asked this time, “Can we do truth or dare now?
I nodded, “Okay guys, up to my room!” The three little ones ran off to the stairs and once again the rest of us followed. When we got to the room Josh, Aaron, and Jenn had already sat on their sleeping bags. I went and sat down at the edge of the bed on the floor, leaning against the cedar chest. Michael sat to my left, also leaning against the chest, while Ashley sat between him and Josh and Courtney joined us between Jenn and me.
Jenn held up her hand, “Alright, I go first!”
I chuckled at her excitement, “Alright, truth or dare?”
She answered without hesitation, “Dare.”
Thinking of something easy Aaron spoke first, “You have to stand on your head.”
Smiling Jenn rolled forward and put her feet in the air, balancing on her head. After holding it for a few seconds she fell back onto her knees. Smiling she stuck her tongue out at her cousin, “Nyeh!”
